Ask:
What are routine and non-routine
problems?
1. Routine problems that are useful for daily
living

2. Non-routine problems which are mostly

concerned with developing mathematical
reasoning and fostering an understanding
that mathematics is a creative endeavor.
Read and solve each simple problem.
Then write your answer on your
notebook.

classmates in Math subject. Their teacher in Math
gave a surprised quiz. CJ got 1 2 correct answers
out 10 items, LV got 3 points higher of CJ’s scores
while DJ got a scores of 2 less that the scores of
LV. What is the score of DJ? What is the score of
LV? If their scores will be sum up, what will be the
total scores?
Problem: DJ and LV scores during their Math quiz
Total scores: added together CJ, LV and DJ

WEEK 7-DAY 4
Review:

A garden plot is 6/9 m wide and 9 m long.

What is the area of the plot in square
meters?

Answer: The area of the garden plot is

________ square meters.
How do we multiply fractions?

 By multiplying the numerator by

numerator.

 By multiplying the denominator by

denominator.
Let us journey together how will it be easier
to us to get the reciprocal of a given fraction.
Let us recall the identity property of
multiplication. Remember, that when we
multiply a number by 1, the answer is always
the number;
Like:
5 x 1 = 5,
10 x 1 = 10,
29 x 1 = 29,
1234 x 1 = 1234
The same is also true if we multiply a
fraction by 1, the answer is the given
fraction;
What number will be multiplied to get a
product of 1?
Like 5 x N = 1, what will be the value of N
that when multiplied to 5 will give a product
of 1.
Let see: 5 x 𝟏/𝟓 = 1

What do you call 𝟏/𝟓?

1/5 is what we call the reciprocal or
multiplicative inverse of 5.
How do we get the reciprocal of a
fraction?
To get the reciprocal of a fraction, just
flip it upside down or get the inverse
of the fraction. The reciprocal of a
fraction is also called its multiplicative
inverse.
Example:

What is reciprocal of ?

Let’s multiply the given fraction and its reciprocal.

Another example:

Find the reciprocal of 3/2 and multiply

the given fraction by its reciprocal.
Reciprocal =

𝟑 𝟐 𝟔
𝒙 = =𝟏
𝟐 𝟑 𝟔
Observe the following:

Do you see a
pattern? What is the
product when a
fraction or a number
is multiplied by its
reciprocal?
Yes! The product of a fraction or a number
multiplied by its reciprocal is always 1. That
is why the reciprocal of a number is also
called its multiplicative inverse.
Give the reciprocal of the given fractions
below. Write your answer in your notebook.
1. 𝟖 3. 𝟕
𝟔 𝟐
𝟖
2. 4.
𝟐 𝟏
𝟕 5. 𝟓
𝟐
What is the reciprocal of the
product of 3/5 and 2/5?

Answer:
Reciprocal or 3/5 is 5/3
Reciprocal of 2/5 is 5/2
How to get the reciprocal of a
fraction?

The reciprocal of a fraction is

found by inverting the fraction.
These are the numerator and
denominator are interchanged.
Make the statement true: Use the number given inside
the rectangle that will give a product of 1. Number can be
repeated. Write your answer in your notebook.

WEEK 7-DAY 5
Review:
What is the reciprocal of 3
over 8?

Answer: 8 over 3
Do you know how to convert mixed
fraction to improper fraction?
For Example:
+2 Multiply the denominator to the

2 whole number and add the

product to the numerator and
x 4 copy the denominator of the
10 given fraction.

4
Do you know how to get the find the reciprocal
of a mixed fraction?

Let’s find out!

 To find the reciprocal of a
mixed number, change the
mixed number to improper
fraction.
The reciprocal of:

Let’s multiply the improper fraction

to its reciprocal:
Another example:

Find the reciprocal of 3 ½ and multiply the

fraction and its reciprocal.

1 7 2
3 = =
2 2 7
1 7 2 14
3 = 𝑥 = 𝑜𝑟 1
2 2 7 14
To find the reciprocal of a whole number,
change the whole number to fraction form.
Another Example:

Find the reciprocal of 8 and multiply the

given number by its reciprocal.

Reciprocal of 8 is 1/8

8 1 8
8= 𝒙 = =1
1 8 8
Give the reciprocal of the given
fractions below. Write your answer in
your notebook.
1. 2 3/6
2. 4 ½
3. 6 4/5
4. 11
5. 9
Find the reciprocal of 5 1/3 and
12.

Reciprocal of 5 1/3 is 3/16.

Reciprocal of 12 is 1/12.
Reciprocals represent two numbers whose
product is one. Multiplying a fraction by its
reciprocal gives the product of 1. To find the
reciprocal of a mixed number, change the mixed
number to improper fraction. To find the
reciprocal of a whole number, change the whole
number to fraction form. To find the reciprocal of
a proper fraction or improper fraction, simply a
matter of transposing the numerator and the
denominator.
Directions: Fill in the blank with a number which
will make the statement true. Write your answers in
your activity notebook.
