L2 Information System

The document defines an information system as an integrated set of components for collecting, storing, and processing data to provide information, knowledge, and digital products. It explains that the main parts of an information system are people, procedures, software, hardware, data, and the internet. Each of these parts plays an important role in how an information system functions to transform data into useful information.

DEFINITION OF INFORMATION
SYSTEM

• information system , an integrated set of components for collecting, storing,

and processing data for providing information, knowledge, and digital
products.
• Information system has several parts:
• People
• Procedure
• Software
• Hardware
• Data
• Internet
PARTS OF INFORMATION SYSTEM

Data Internet
PARTS OF INFORMATION SYSTEM

• People: are end users who use computers to make themselves professional.

• Procedures: specify rules or guidelines for computer operation.

• Software: provide step-by-step instruction for computer hardware ( count parts

of software)

• Hardware: include keyboard, mouse…etc. and other devices. ( count parts of

hardware).

• Data: unprocessed facts including text, numbers, images, sound…etc.

• Internet: is a world wide network allows the computer to connect to other

computers around the world.
People

• People are surely the most important

part of any information system.
• People in information system can
work in many careers:
• Webmaster
• Software engineer
• Computer support specialist
• Computer technician
• Technical writer
• Network administrator
HARDWARE

There are four basics categories of hardware in personal

computer:
• System Unit : including micro-processing and memory

• Input and output devices

• Secondary storage : hard disk and optical disk ( CD, DVD,..etc)

• Communication devices: allow the computer to communicate with

other computers via the internet ( modem)
Software

• System software: helps the computer carry out its basic operating tasks.

• Application software: helps the user carry out a variety of specific tasks.
Software

• System software manages the fundamental operations of your computer, such as

loading programs and data into memory, executing programs, saving data to
disks, displaying information on the monitor, and transmitting data through a
port to a peripheral device.

• Application software enables you to perform specific computer tasks, such as

document production, spreadsheet calculations, and database management.

( already discussed in lecture 1)

• Data refers to unprocessed facts, including numbers, figures, sounds, and text.
• Processed data becomes information.
• There are four common type of data:
DATA
• Documents files are created by word processors
• Worksheets file are created by spreadsheet processors
• Presentation file are created by presentation software such as PowerPoint
• Database file are created by database software such as Access
