Buck Converter: Restu Abdul Wakhid 2209100022

A buck converter is a type of DC-to-DC converter that steps down voltage. It works by rapidly switching a transistor on and off to allow current to flow through an inductor and diode. This builds up and releases the inductor's magnetic field in a way that outputs a lower voltage than the input. Key components are a switch, freewheeling diode, inductor, and capacitor. Analysis of the circuit during switch on and off periods allows calculation of output voltage based on input voltage, duty cycle, inductor and capacitor values.

BUCK CONVERTER

RESTU ABDUL WAKHID 2209100022

Buck Converter
Buck converter is one of kind DC-DC converter topology which usually use to drop a DC voltage Buck Converter work by switching control principle Basic electronic component of buck converter is switch, freewheel diode, inductor and capasitor.

The basic circuit of Buck Converter

When switch on

Analysis from the circuit

Vo = Vi VL Vo = Vi L di/dt on L di/dt on = Vi Vo i = {(Vi Vo ) Ton}/ L........(1)

T = Ton + Toff
T = T on / D

When switch off

Analysis from the circuit

-Vo = VL -Vo = L di/dt off i = {- Vo * T off }/ L.......(2) From the 1 & 2 equation i=i {(Vi Vo ) Ton}/ L = {- Vo * T off }/ L Vo = Vi * D

example

Assume: Vin = 12 volts Vout = 5 volts I load = 2 amps Fsw = 400 Hz D = Vout / Vin = 5/12 = 0,416
Define Ripple current: Iripple = 30 % I load (typically 30%)

Vout = Vin * D = 12 * 0.416 = 4.99 = 5 volt T = 1/f = 1/ 400 = 0.0025 T off = 0.584 * T = 0.00146 I ripple = 30 % I max = 0.6 A V ripple = 30 % V max = 3.6 V Vo = L di/dt 5 = L 0.6/ T off L = 12 mH Vo = C dv/dt 5 = C 3.6 / T off C = 2mF
