He argued that we don’t just imitate the specific behaviors, but that
viewing aggression changes our schemas and attitudes about
aggression.
For instance, watching a parent hitting the other parent may not
only increase a child’s likelihood of hitting but may also increase
his or her beliefs that “Hitting is OK” or “One way to solve
problems is by hitting”.
• The more media violence people, including children, view, the more aggressive they are likely to be.
• Children are exposed to violence in movies, video games, virtual reality games, as well as in popular music and music videos that
contains violent lyrics and imagery.
A recent meta-analysis (Anderson & Bushman) reviewed 35 research studies that had tested the effects of playing violent video games on
aggression, in both male and female participants.
They found that exposure to violent video games is significantly linked to:
