Culture of peace education was formulated
in 1989, in view of the necessity of building up a
new vision of peace, through the development
of new culture.
• Respect for life
• Freedom
• Justice
• Solidarity
 Relies on the peaceful settlement and
dispute through dialogue

 Dialogue is an important process to achieve


peaceful resolution of conflict.
The Declaration (UN, 1998) state that “ a
culture of peace is a set of values, attitudes,
traditions, modes of behavior and ways of life
that reflect and inspire:

1. Respect for life and for all human rights


By having a sence of inherent dignity
towards other regardless of their backgrounds.
2. Rejection of violence in forms and
prevention of violent conflict
By refusal to respond to and adversary or
conflict situation with violence, instead solving
the problem through dialogue as against the
use of physical force.

3. Promotion to the equal rights and
opportunities of men and women
Valuing the rights of women to enjoy equal
opportunities with men and free from abuse,
exploitation and violence.
4. Recognition of the rights of everyone to
freedom of expression, opinion and

open mind and with respect.

A culture of peace is a
patway of life. It is the
respect and protection of
every person’s human
dignity.
1) Personal and Family Integrity
 Personal values of honesty, descipline etc.
 Family values- fidelity, unity, love of parents
and children
 vs. vices-e.g drugs, gambling pornography
etc.

2) Human Rights and Democracy
 Human rights are universal
 Rights to life, to educate, freedom of religious
etc
 Freedom of speech and assembly, rights to
vote freely in genuine democracy

Natural Moral Law

5) Disarmaments and Cessation of Hostilities
