Pythagorean Theorem

The document provides instructions for a word search game activity where students will have 2 minutes to find and write as many words as they can from the word search, with each word earning 1 point for their group. It also explains the Pythagorean theorem and provides examples of using it to solve for unknown sides of right triangles and word problems involving right triangles such as calculating the diagonal length of a laptop screen or the height of a tent.

Good

Morning!
Joan Vien N. Magmanlac
Let’s have a game!
But first, smile….
Let’s have a game!

WORD SEARCH GAME!

Word Search Game!
Guidelines:
1. Find and write as many words as you can.
2. Each group will take turn to say the words they write
however repetition is not allowed.
3. Every word is equivalent to 1 point.
4. The time allotment for this activity is 2 minutes.
5. The accumulated scores of the group for the whole
period activity will be written(recorded) at the back of
your notebook.
Find words as many as you can!
Objectives:

• state the Pythagorean theorem

• solve the unknown variable using
Pythagorean theorem
• apply the Pythagorean theorem in
solving word problem

Pythagoras of Samos discovered

the Pythagorean Theorem, which is a
relationship exist between the
hypotenuse and the legs of right
triangle and this relationship is true
for all right triangles.
Pythagorean Theorem
In any right triangle, the square of the hypotenuse is
equal to the sum of the square of the legs. In symbols,

Example 1. A triangle has three sides that measure 14,
15, and 16. Determine if the triangle is a right triangle.
Given:
a = 14
b = 15
c = 16

Therefore, this triangle is not a right triangle.

Example 2. A triangle has three sides that measure 5cm,
12cm, and 13cm. Determine if the triangle is a right
triangle.
Given:
a = 5cm
b = 12cm
c = 13cm

Therefore, this triangle is a right triangle.
