Disassembling-And-Assembling-System-Unit (GROUP 2)

The document discusses the process of disassembling and reassembling a computer system unit. It describes the tools used and provides step-by-step instructions for disassembly, cleaning, installing components, and reassembly. During initial testing, the computer would not power on due to an incorrectly connected power button cable. However, after reconnecting the cable correctly, the second test was successful and the computer functioned properly.

Disassembling and

Assembling a System Unit

GROUP 2
Tools Used
The computer assembly process primarily involves the use of small hand
tools. These tools can be obtained individually or as part of a computer
repair toolkit, which varies in terms of size, quality, and cost. There are
several commonly used hand tools with specific functions in computer
assembly.
 Phillips-head screwdriver - Used to tighten or loosen cross-headed
screws.
 Long-nose plier - Used to hold small parts.
 Smooth brush - Used to clean different computer components
without scratching or leaving debris
 Disposable gloves - Disposable gloves won't help with static.
 Pen – Used to write down parts of system units.
 Microfiber Cloth – Used to prevent static shocks

Step 1: Unplugging the Sockets
 When disassembling a computer system unit,
make sure to turn off the computer and then
unplug every cable that is plugged in into the
computer system unit. That includes mouse,
keyboard, monitor, and any other peripherals.

SAFETY TIPS: Touch any metal part of your

computer to discharge any static electricity…

Step 2: Opening the Case
 When the computer system unit is fully
unplugged, put it in a clean and empty
working area. To open the system unit case,
unscrew the screws on the back of the case,
then slide the cover to lift it off.

NOTE: Place the screws in some kind of

container and label them to avoid missing
screws. Use more than one container, because
there are different types of screws inside the
system unit.

Step 3: Unplugging the Cables
 Unplug all the cables that are attached to each
component.

NOTE: Take some photos or make some notes of

the connections of every component before
removing them, it will greatly help when
reassembling the computer system unit, to
assemble it properly.
During disassembly
Step 4: Removing the components
 Carefully remove all the components from the
system unit.

NOTE: Put all the components in a clean and

safe area.
During disassembly
Step 4: Removing the components
•Power Supply
First, the power supply. In removing the power
supply, unplug every wire coming from the
power supply, once everything is unplugged,
unscrew the four screws holding the power
supply on the back of the computer, and then,
push the power supply from the outside then lift
it out.

Step 4: Removing the components
•Hard Drive
Next the hard drive, in removing the hard drive
unplug all the connected cables into it and
unscrew all the screws securing it in place. Be
very careful not to drop the hard drive because it
can easily damage.
During disassembly
Step 4: Removing the components
•RAM
To remove the RAM, push down on both tabs
holding the RAM in place, which are located at
both ends of the RAM.
During disassembly
Step 4: Removing the components
•CPU Fan/Heat Sink
To remove the CPU fan from the motherboard,
unplug the connected cable from the
motherboard then turn the push pins with fingers
or a flat screwdriver 90 degrees
counterclockwise to release them.
During disassembly
Step 4: Removing the components
•Motherboard
In removing the motherboard unscrew all the
screws holding it in place then carefully lift it
out.
During disassembly
Step 5: Cleaning
 Used brush or any necessary tools in cleaning
the system unit and its components.
During assembly
Step 1: Installing the components and
connecting all the cables
 After cleaning all the components of the
computer system unit, it’s time to reassemble
it.

NOTE: Plug in all the cables properly and…

Step 1: Installing the components and
connecting all the cables
•CPU Fan
First, install the CPU Fan to the Motherboard. In
installing the CPU Fan, push down to lock the
clip into the motherboard hole, then plug the
CPU’s Fan power connector into the proper
connector on the motherboard.
During assembly
Step 1: Installing the components and
connecting all the cables
•RAM
In installing the RAM, insert it into the proper
socket on the motherboard and push down firmly
but evenly until the clips on both sides of the
socket pop into place.
During assembly
Step 1: Installing the components and
connecting all the cables
•Motherboard
In installing the motherboard, locate the
motherboard standoffs, then carefully position
the motherboard on the top of the standoffs,
ensuring that the ports face out towards the I/O
shield. After that, align the screw holes on the
motherboard with the standoffs and use screws
to secure it in place.

Step 1: Installing the components and
connecting all the cables
•Hard Drive
In installing the Hard Drive, locate the drive
bays for the hard drive then use screws to secure
the drive into place. When the hard drive is
already installed, use the SATA cable to connect
the hard drive to the motherboard.
During assembly
Step 1: Installing the components and
connecting all the cables
•Power Supply
To install the power supply, locate where it
should be placed, it is usually located at the top
of the case. Line up the screw holes with the case
and screw the power supply into place. After
securing the power supply unit to the system
unit, connect the power connectors to the drives
and the motherboard.
During assembly
Step 2: Organizing the Cables and checking
the connection
 Once all the components are installed and
properly connected, organize the cables inside
the system unit to ensure that they are not
obstructing the airflow and have a final
inspection by checking if there is an improper
connection or loose connection.
During assembly
Step 3: Plugging in all the peripherals
 Connect all the peripherals or external
hardware such as mouse, keyboard, monitor,
and any other peripherals.

 After plugging in all the peripherals, power

on the computer and check if all the
components are functioning properly.
1st Test
We got a problem at our first try because of incorrect
power switch connection as the computer wont open
by pressing the power button and it caused an
intermittent power issues preventing the system from
booting entirely

NOTE: It's important to note that connecting the positive and negative
leads of any connector incorrectly can potentially cause a short circuit,
which could damage the motherboard or other components. Most
modern motherboards have built-in protections to prevent serious
damage from such mistakes, but it's always advisable to double-check
the connections to avoid any issues.
2nd Test
Finally, the 2nd time we tested our system unit to a
monitor is successful, and we expect it to be
successful as we are confident at our work.
CONCLUSION
The purpose of disassembling and assembling the computer system unit was
to sustain the computer system unit by organizing and cleaning the
components and the cables of the system unit.
During the disassembly process, everything was fine, we successfully
removed the components and cables out of the system unit. After
reassembling the system unit, we test the computer to ensure that everything
was functioning properly, but on the first try, the power button of the system
unit is not working because the power button cable is not correctly connected
to the motherboard. For the second try, after checking and correctly changed
the misconnected cables, the computer and all the components of the system
unit are functioning properly.
Overall, the disassembly and reassembly process was successful in
organizing and cleaning the components and the cables, to sustain the system
unit. Though we encountered a problem during reassembling process, we
were still able to overcome it and run the computer system unit successfully.
