Teachers Lesson Plan Development and The 4Cs

1) Planning involves determining what to teach (content, topic), who to teach (students' abilities and needs), and how to teach it (teaching methods and ensuring understanding). 2) Preparing includes setting up the learning environment, developing activities for different students, and preparing resources and assessments. 3) Delivering requires teaching in a conducive environment, engaging students through techniques like questioning, differentiation, and review to facilitate active, collaborative and critical learning.

should be able to:
• Say what the 3 words:
Plan, Prepare and Deliver, mean.
• Explain what the differences between
planning, preparing and delivering a
lesson are

• Do the students know (i) what they are doing (ii) why they are doing it? Can they
see the point – do they know the ‘bigger picture’? How do the 4Cs come in?

There needs to be:

•A challenging level of subject knowledge

•Active, collaborative learning – this is crucial as students should be able to work,

be on task, ‘without adult supervision
• Choice of activities or of approaches to them - creativity
• Lots of higher order questions (which you don’t answer for them) critical thinking
• Visual aids and practical activities – creativity, collaboration and critical thinking
• Marking that is really a ‘feedback for progress’ (assessment for learning)
Olufunmilayo Tubi, formerly da-Silva
• You also need:
– Pace, routine and well practised transitions.

• To facilitate the learning

• To differentiate within the lesson
• To use strategies to improve literacy (using key words and connectives
• To encourage competition (especially good when teaching boys)
• To encourage group work/collaborative learning
• To use questioning well to cater for all – high order when appropriate
• Incorporate thinking time

• Review learning during the lesson – (not just at the end!)
