Introducing

Macromedia
Flash 8
PREPARED BY:
MS. JOSERIE M. MIRABELES
OBJECTIVES

At the end of this lesson, you should be able to:

▪ Define Macromedia, and know its history,
▪ Know the basics of Flash,
▪ Know the Drawing tools and techniques,
▪ Create drawings using Flash drawing tools, and
▪ Make shapes into objects.
MACROMEDIA FLASH

Macromedia Flash is a program that creates

interactive, and animated media such as motion
graphics, videos, presentations and websites.
BRIEF HISTORY OF MACROMEDIA FLASH

 Originally developed by FutureWave, Flash was first known as

FutureSplash Animator.
 In 1996, Macromedia purchased the product, the name
changed to Macromedia Flash.

GETTING STARTED WITH MACROMEDIA FLASH 8

Macromedia Flash is a design tool set up primarily

to allow the efficient creation of animations,
especially for web pages.
THA FLASH START PAGE

Load Flash 8 and

the following START
PAGE should be
displayed.

THE PROPERTIES INSPECTOR
THE PANELS

Flash provides all the tools needed to create animations in a

series of panels that are displayed around the stage and work
areas.

It has two main sections: LAYER and FRAME

You will use this panel extensively when creating animations.

It provides properties or formats for each object that you

select.
RULERS, GRIDS, AND GUIDES

Flash provides a range of screen tools to assist with the

accurate creation of animations.

Rules Grids

Guide
RULERS

It allows you to accurately place objects on the screen.

RULERS

To change the ruler units, display the MODIFY menu and

select DOCUMENT.
GRIDS

You can set objects to snap to the grid points and set how
accurately the objects snap to those grid points.
GUIDES

Guides are grid lines that you drag on to the screen one at
a time.
USING THE DRAWING TOOLS

The standard drawing tools such as lines, circles and rectangles

are similar to those used in other drawing programs.
FLASH ACTIVITY 1

Create a simple sketch using the drawing tools. It could be a stick figure walking, a
bird, or a ball bouncing off a wall. You can turn on Rulers and/or Grid, or use Guides
to help with the sketch.
DRAWING TOOLS

Before creating Flash animations, you need to be aware of

the different Drawing Tools that Flash offers. This part will
concentrate on some of the other drawing tools and
techniques that are available in Flash.

COOKIE CUTTING

 Causes one object to replace part or all of another object

when it is placed over the first object.
 The object that is drawn first is at the back of the stage.
 The next object that is drawn is stacked above the first
and any part of the first object that is covered by the
second is erased.
 Flash used cookie cutting to help reduce the size of files.

COOKIE CUTTING

When you draw an oval or rectangle in Flash, the shape has

two parts: FILL and BORDER
COOKIE CUTTING

This is what is meant by Cookie Cutting – the red oval cookie

has cut the yellow circle.
SELECTING OBJECTS

There are number of ways selecting the border and the fill.

the fill.
SELECTION TOOL

Used to select or move objects, and modify objects.

SELECTION TOOL

You can break lines that intersect at a corner into two.

If the line is straight the two created lines will be straight.
If the line is curved, the two created lines will be curved.

FLASH ACTIVITY 2

Transform a rectangular shape into a bowl using the

tools we discussed.
ROUNDED RECTANGLES

Flash allows you to draw rounded rectangle directly.

to set the stroke color.
PAINT BUCKET TOOLS

This will be used to add a fill to the right rectangle.

EYEDROPPER TOOL

This is used to copy colors from one object to another.

ERASER TOOL

▪ This allows to remove

objects or parts of objects
from the screen.
▪ It is basically a freehand
cookie cutting.
▪ It has different modes,
different shapes and a
faucet button.
