Introduction to powerpoint
MS PowerPoint is a program that is included in the Microsoft Office suite. It is used to make presentations for personal
and professional purposes.

2. Basic Terms of Powerpoint
A. Home tab
The “Home” tab is the second tab in the menu ribbon located at the top of the screen. It is between the “File”
tab and the “Insert” tab. When you open a new PowerPoint file, the “Home” tab will be open in the menu
ribbon by default.
1) Creating a new slide: In the slide pane click on the slide where you would like the new slide to appear
below.Click on the New Slide button located on the Home tab in the Slides group.
2) Adding a new slide: If you want to add a new slide between two, select the first of the two slides and
click New Slide. New Slide button contains a New Slide button arrow. Click on the arrow to view different
slide layouts.
3) Adding a Layout: On the Home tab, in the Slides group, click Layout, and then select the layout that is
updated in Slide Master View.
4)Paragraph: In the paragraph section, you can align the text, manage spacing etc)
B. Insert Tab
The Insert tab in PowerPoint, is used to insert objects and elements on the slide in your
presentation. There are several commands and groups that can be accessed using the
“Insert” tab in PowerPoint.
• Inserting a picture
Using the “Pictures” feature you can add an image to your PowerPoint presentation either
from your device or the internet. You can also add stock images. The “Picture” option
supports all picture formats.
• Inserting a table
The “Table” group under the “Insert” tab contains only the “Insert Table” feature. Using
the feature you can insert or draw a new table, or even paste a table from another source.
• Inserting a chart
The “Chart” option in the “Illustrations” group allows you to add graphs, bar charts,
histograms, etc. to your presentation slides.
C. Design Tab
The Design Tab commands allow you to control the look and the appearance
of your presentation.
• Theme
To select themes in design tab
Select the Design tab.
Select one of the Themes.
Select one of the Variants.

E. Review Tab
Review Tab in Microsoft PowerPoint is use for checking spelling and grammar mistakes,
adding comments etc.
• Spelling and Thesaurus
It can be used for checking spelling mistakes and finding out meanings of words.
F. File Tab
The File tab provides access to common file actions, such as New, Open, and Save. It also
allows you to manage files using more advanced tools, such as Export and Publish.
• File Save and save as
Save and Save As are similar to each other, If you have saved the presentation before by
any other name then the second time if you want to save you have to click on Save As. If
you have not saved the presentation before so you can click on the Save option. Save as
mean you can save it as a PDF, XPS document, and many more types.
• Print
To print, First, select how many copies you want to copy then select your printer.
After that select the page If it should be landscape or portrait, grayscale or colored and then
click on the print button.
