What is the Internet?
The Internet is a global network of
billions of computers and other
electronic devices. With the Internet,
it's possible to access almost any
information, communicate with
anyone else in the world, and do
much more.
What is the Web?
The World Wide Web—usually
called the Web for short—is a
collection of different websites
you can access through the
Internet.

SEARCH ENGINES
• Search engines make this information
easier to find. All you have to do is type one or
more keywords, and the search engine will
look for relevant websites.
EMAIL
• Short for electronic mail, email is a way to send
and receive messages across the Internet. Almost
everyone who uses the Internet has their own
email account, usually called an email address.
SOCIAL NETWORKING
• Social networking websites are another way
to connect and share with your family and
friends online.
CHAT AND INSTANT MESSAGING
• Chat and instant messaging (IM) are short
messages sent and read in real time, allowing
you to converse more quickly and easily than
email.

A hyperlink or Link for short is a word, phrase,
or image that you can click on to jump to a new
document or a new section within the current
document. Text hyperlinks are often blue and
underlined, but don't have to be.

Navigation Buttons
The Back and Forward buttons allow you to move
through websites you've recently viewed.

The Refresh button will reload the current page. If


a website stops working, try using the Refresh
button.
Tabbed Browsing
To open a link in a new tab, right-click the link and
select Open link in new tab (the exact wording may
vary from browser to browser).
Bookmarks and History
Bookmarks, also known as favorites, are a great way to save and
organize specific websites so you can revisit them again and
again. Simply locate and select the Star icon to bookmark the
current website.

authority or control within the Internet.

Google Chrome has been quick to gain popularity
since its first release in 2008, and has been known
for its fast, reliable performance as well as its
minimalist design and support for the latest web
technologies.

• One of the oldest known web browsers, first released in 1995
with Windows 95, Internet Explorer (IE) is also the most widely
distributed browser in the world
• Microsoft Edge is the default web browser on Windows 10,
replacing Internet Explorer 11 and Internet Explorer Mobile
MOZILLA FIREFOX
• Mozilla Firefox is a browser that was released in 2004 and is as
popular as IE with market share that is neck and neck. It is
considered one of the top 3 browsers in terms of performance,
and is owned by a non-profit organization
SAFARI
• Safari is a web browser originally designed for apple mac
users although Apple did give it a go with a windows version.
Safari was found to be much slower than its competitors with
even internet explorer out performing it.
OPERA
Opera is a multi-platform web browser developed by Opera
Software. Opera is a Chromium-based browser. It distinguishes itself
from other browsers through its user interface, functionality, and
other features.
