Guide Questions:
1.What are the words that you can
find on the word search?
2. What type of devices are they?
Presenting
examples/instances of
the new lesson
The following are a pictures of peripheral devices, please
identify the following by matching the picture from column A
to its uses/functions to Column B. Write the letter only.
Column A Column B
A. A hardware device connected to a computer’s sound card that outputs
sounds generated by the card.
  .

B. One of the main input devices used on a computer, a PC’s keyboard looks
very similar to the keyboards of electric typewriters, with some additional
keys.
C. An instrument for converting sound waves into electrical energy variations
which may then be amplified, transmitted, or recorded.
D. An external hardware device responsible for taking computer data and
generating a hard copy of that data.
E. An input device that allows an individual to control a mouse pointer in a
Graphical User Interface (GUI).
Note: This activity will be done for 3 minutes.
Discussing new concepts and
practicing new skills #1
Peripheral device is generally defined as any auxiliary
device such as a computer mouse or keyboard, that
connects to and works with the computer in some way.
Other examples of peripherals are expansion cards,
graphics cards, image scanners, tape drives, microphones,
loudspeakers, webcams, and digital cameras.
According to the most technical definition,
the only pieces of a computer not considered to be
peripherals are the central processing unit, power
supply, motherboard, and computer case.
A peripheral is a device that is connected to
a host computer, but not part of it. It expands the
host’s capabilities but does not form part of the
core computer architecture.
It is often, but not always,
partially or completely dependent on
the host. A peripheral is a “device
that is used to put information into or
get information out of the computer.”
Discussing new concepts and
practicing new skills #2
There are three different types of peripherals:
 Input, used to interact with, or send data to the computer
(mouse, keyboards, touchscreen, etc.)
 Output, which provides output to the user from the
computer (monitors, printers, speakers, etc.)
 Storage, which stores data processed by the computer (hard
drives, flash drives, etc.)
Common Peripherals
 INPUT DEVICES is any peripheral (piece of computer
hardware equipment to provide data and control signals to
an information processing system such as a computer or
other information appliance. Input device translate data
from form that humans understand to one that the computer
can work with. Most common are keyboard and mouse.
Examples of Input Devices

KEYBOARD • Is one of the main input

devices used on a
computer, a PC's keyboard
looks very similar to the
keyboards of electric
typewriters, with some
additional keys.
Is an input device
MOUSE that allows an
individual to control
a mouse pointer in a
graphical user
interface (GUI).
TOUCH Use to display
SCREEN device which allows
the user to interact
with a computer by
touching areas on
the screen.
Hardware input device that
allows a user to take an
SCANNER image and/or text and
convert it into a digital file,
allowing the computer to
read and/or display the
scanned object. A scanner is
commonly connected to a
computer USB, Fire wire,
Parallel or SCSI port
A camera connected to
WEBCAM a computer or server
that allows anyone
connected to the
Internet to view still
pictures or motion
video of a user.
An instrument for
MICROPHONE converting sound
waves into electrical
energy variations
which may then be
amplified,
transmitted, or
recorded.
OUTPUT DEVICES
An output device is any piece of computer
hardware equipment used to communicate the
results of data processing carried out by an
information processing system (such as a
computer) which converts the electronically
generated information into human-readable form.
Examples of Output Devices
• Is an output device for
DISPLAY DEVICES presentation of information in
visual or tactile form (the latter
used for example in tactile
electronic displays for blind
people). When the input
information that is supplied has
an electrical signal the display is
called an electronic display.
A display device is an
GRAPHICAL output device that
OUTPUT DEVICE visually conveys text,
graphics, and video
information. Display
devices include CRT
monitors, LCD monitors
and displays, gas plasma
monitors, and televisions.
A hardware device
SPEAKER connected to a
computer's sound
card that outputs
sounds generated
by the card.
An external hardware
device responsible for
PRINTER taking computer data and
generating a hard copy of
that data. Printers are one
of the most used 12
peripherals on computers
and are commonly used to
print text, images, and/or
photos.
STORAGE DEVICE
A piece of computer
equipment on which
information can be stored.
Examples of Storage Devices

Is a device which is plugged into your

External Hard Drive machine to give almost-immediate
storage space, without the need to
open your computers internal
storage and make upgrades.
External drives are portable storage
devices typically used to store data
such as photos, videos, and
documents.
A small electronic
FLASHDRIVE device containing
flash memory that is
used for storing data
or transferring it to
or from a computer,
digital camera, etc.
Developing Mastery (leads to formative assessment 3)
Analyze the picture below.
Guide Question:
.What are the five senses?
.What are the senses use to
manipulate computer?
• What is the relationship of
human senses to the
functionality of the hardware
(input and output peripherals)
and software parts of the
computer?
Note: (Integration of Science 10, Learning
Competency Code: Describe how the nervous
system coordinates and regulates these feedback
mechanism to maintain homeostasis, Quarter 3,
Week 3, LC Code S10LT-IIIc-36)
Finding practical application of concepts and
skills in daily living
Based on the picture above, the human senses are
the ones that manipulate computer, the brain dictates
the senses on what to do. The hands handles the input
devices to send information to the computer system, then the
software application will process that information to produce
an output or result that may recognize of our eyes
and ears.
Guide Question:

If ever you are mentally or physically challenged, do you think these will
hinder to your desire to manipulate computer? Explain why?

Would you rather manipulate the computer even though you are mentally
and physically challenged?
Note: Special Topics: Mental and Physical Health Difficulties
Making generalizations and
abstraction about the lesson
To sum up the ideas of our lesson for today,
What are the role of the parts of the human body
in manipulating computer both hardware ( input,
output and storage peripheral devices) and
software parts of the computer?
Evaluating Learning

Test I
A. Direction. In the word pool, classify the following peripherals whether it belongs to Input, Output and
Storage Devices. Write your answers in your activity notebook.
