Temperature Scale

The document discusses three common temperature scales: Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin. It provides the key reference points for each scale: 0°C is the freezing point of water, 100°C is the boiling point of water. 0°F is the freezing point of salt water, 100°F is approximate human body temperature. 0K is absolute zero which equals -273°C. Conversion formulas are also provided between Celsius and Fahrenheit and between Celsius and Kelvin.

 Celsius

 Kelvin Scale
 Temperature is the scale measure of heat
 The temperature is a measure of the average kinetic energy of the moving
particles in a substance.
 Temperature is measured using a thermometer expressed in terms of units or degrees
designated on a standard scale

The different scales and standards for measuring temperature are:

 Celsius
 Fahrenheit
 Kelvin Scale
Measuring scales of Temperature
 Fahrenheit
0 degrees F = Freezing point of Salt/ice
100 degrees F = Body Temperature

 Celsius
0 degrees C = Ice Melts
100 degrees C = Water Boils

 Kelvin Scale
0 K (absolute zero)= -273 degrees C
373 K = 100 degrees C
Converting C & F Converting C & K
• a change of 1 degree C = a change of 1.8 • The “size” of 1K is the
degree F. same as 1 degree C.
• To convert from C to K just
F = 9/5 C + 32 add 273
C = 5/9 (F- 32)
K = degree C +273
