What is Information Technology?

 Information Technology means to create, manage, store and

exchange of data via various methods. To transfer, create and store
data we need many technologies such as computer software and
hardware, etc. These technologies help us to manage the data in a
significant way.

 Information Technology uses computer systems or devices to access

information. It is a combination of both information and technology.
This system is responsible for a large portion of any workforce,
business operation, and other personal access information comprising
an individual's daily activities. It impacts our day-to-day life gravely.
Why Do We Need Information Technology?
We need information technology in today’s world to establish faster communication,
maintain electronic storage and provide protection to records. In a simple way, IT
makes a system of electronic storage to provide protection for the company’s records.
Customer demands for secured maintenance files and all are made possible by IT.

Information technology is important in our lives because it helps to deal with

everyday dynamic things. Technology offers various tools to boost development and
exchange information. Both these things are the objective of IT to make tasks easier
and to solve many problems.

Information Technology enables the sharing of knowledge throughout the world.

With IT today, not only students but teachers too are taking advantage and staying
up-to-date. For accurate sharing of knowledge and information, teaching and
learning, information technology is important.
IT in Home Computing

 We use a PC (personal computer) at our

home. The computer is used in our homes
for surfing the internet, making
presentations, video, games, etc.

 In our daily life, most of the equipment we are using is embedded with software.
Microwave has its own software to maintain the temperature and also washing
machines, the set-top box has software to interact with us and give us a good
experience.

 One can now download movies, play games, chat, video calls using mobiles and
computers. Digital broadcasting has opened a door to the world. It changed the
television experience. digital programs are now more interactive and use very
much graphics designing.

 Most people's lifestyles have altered as a result of technology. Games, streaming

music and video, digital television broadcasts, satellite radio, animated movies,
and other forms of entertainment have emerged as a result of the convergence of
various technologies.
IT in Education

 Nothing is permanent, only the change is constant. We know everything will be

changed and has been changing with time. The credit for the advancement of the
world goes to technology. Technology has been changing the face of the globe at a
rapid pace and its effect can be seen in the education system as well. The system of
education has been improved in various ways and today, it becomes tough to even
make a similarity with the traditional aspect of education.

 The introduction of technology to the world of education has made it easier for
students. Teachers can teach in many innovative ways and they can connect to
students more easily and fastly than before.. With technology, today teaching has
become an easy profession for teachers and it eases a load of teachers as well.

 Multimedia is a hub of opportunities and possibilities for teachers and students in

the world of technology. We are very well aware of multimedia but for the
uninitiated, it covers audio, videos, music, infographics, gifs, and others. With the
help of audio, video, and other multimedia features, the teaching quality of
teachers has been improved and now they are able to teach students in a better
way.
ICT in the classroom
ICT can be used in various ways in schools.
 e-learning classrooms;
 smart-board presentations;
 videos on experiments;
 creation of images and video;
 desktop publishing of magazines, letters and documents.

Education — anywhere anytime

A lot of books and educational content are now digitalized. We can get the content whenever we want.
Our government is also providing websites to access NCERT books online.

Teaching aids and media

ICT is used mostly as a teaching aid in schools to
use pictures, animations and audio-visuals to explain subjects that are difficult to explain.
• make the lessons interesting using presentations.
• organize lessons using the computer.

Learning Management System (LMS)

A Learning Management System (LMS) is being used by many schools to manage their school system.
This system is very useful for managing attendance and result. Is well designed to record students' data
in an effective way.
E-Health

 By giving expert sites in many fields of medicine,
medical consultations without having to visit a doctor's
office, and illness information.

 A scanner, for example, uses computerized axial tomography (CAT) or magnetic

resonance imaging to acquire a sequence of images of the body (MRI). The images are
then stitched together by a computer to create detailed three-dimensional images of
the body's organs.

 Furthermore, the MRI generates pictures that depict changes in body chemistry and
blood flow. The majority of essential life support equipment is programmed to react in
split seconds to changes in the patient's state, decreasing reaction time and the danger
of human mistakes. Robotic surgery, for example, is a new concept that allows
surgeons to operate from afar.
IT in Science and Engineering
 Computers and other microprocessor-controlled
technologies are nearly completely responsible for
scientific development in disciplines like
biotechnology

 Meteorologists use supercomputers to forecast future weather by combining

observations of meteorological conditions from a variety of sources, a
mathematical description of atmospheric dynamics, and geographic data.

 In several sectors, computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided

manufacturing (CAM) systems have resulted in better products, particularly if
designs are highly precise. Engineers may use computer algorithms to assess
plans for large buildings like power plants and space stations.
E- Governance

 E-government refers to the use of
computers to manage transactions and
governmental services offered to individuals
in the state rather than conventional
techniques such as paper or traveling from
one department to another.

 The computerization of government activities makes it simpler to monitor and
audit government operations, as well as making the administration more
responsive to societal requirements. It also helps to bridge the gap between the
government and the general public.

 Touch-screen kiosks, for example, assist in distributing information on property
records, picture identification cards, outstanding bills, and other topics, allowing
even illiterate individuals to make better judgments. India is the world leader in
the efficient use of information technology in elections.
Conclusion:

To sum up over major applications of information technology in different sectors,

we have understood the ubiquitous impact of IT that is encompassing more and
more in our daily lives with time. IT simply provides the omnipresent association of
anything associated with computer technology making our dependence on
technology more reliable and efficient.
