Action Research

The document discusses a study that aims to improve the learning levels of 7th grade students in the Philippines through the use of guided science worksheets as intervention materials. It notes that many students receive poor marks and struggle to keep up despite intervention efforts. The study will provide thorough activity directions in worksheets for modular students to use at home. Prior literature found strategic interventions improved test scores. The study seeks to answer questions about students' scores before and after using the detailed worksheets, and determine the worksheets' effectiveness. It will involve 40 low-performing students and use rubrics and t-tests to analyze pre- and post-intervention data.

Utilization Of Guided
Science Worksheets As
Intervention Material For
Seventh Grade Students

Juvy A. Marquinez & Roena S. Manzanilla

INTRODUCTION
AND
RATIONALE
INTRODUCTION AND RATIONALE
One of the challenges facing education today is maintaining high levels of learning
among students despite the global economic downturn. As a result, teachers and
the Department of Education continue to develop learning activity sheets,
worksheets, and performance assignments to assess students' abilities and
learning. Despite these efforts, many children continue to receive poor marks and
are unable to keep up with most of their peers. Even though teachers continue to
give intervention resources, children, particularly in modular modality and grade 7,
continue to obtain bad grades and have difficulties following lessons.

This study aims to improve students' learning levels by offering thorough and
complete activity directions, particularly for students in the modular modality,
which they can follow to stay on track with their studies even while they are at
home.

RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES/
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The usage of Strategic Intervention Materials,
according to (Sinco,2018), was an effective intervention
that resulted in students earning a higher posttest score
and improved their academic performance as well.
According to the literature, no study has been done on
the use of detailed and comprehensive science worksheets
as intervention material for the low performing grade
seven students, hence this study will be done.
RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES/
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
As a teacher, your role in a student’s life goes beyond
providing a great education:
“I learned early on about the real meaning of equity and inclusion,
and that when those guiding principles are not met, they can have
devastating effects on individuals, families, and communities.”
- Lori Lightfoot
RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES/
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
• Minimize the number of the least performing grade 7
students while also improving their performance on
learning worksheets, activities, and performance tasks
.

• Help students who are struggling to keep up in class and

better grasp the activities assigned to them
Research
Questions
RESEARCH QUESTIONS
The primary purpose of this research is to investigate how
effective it is to employ extensive and comprehensive science
worksheets as intervention material for struggling seventh graders.
Specifically, this study aims to answer the following questions:

1. What are the mean scores of selected Grade 7 students before

using the detailed Science worksheets as intervention material?
2. What are the mean scores of selected Grade 7 students after
using the detailed Science worksheets as intervention material?

Specifically, this study aims to answer the following questions:

3. Is there a significant difference on the mean scores of selected

Grade 7 students before and after using detailed Science
worksheets?
4. Is the utilization of detailed worksheets in science as

DATA
ANALYSIS
DATA ANALYSIS
• Carmona National High School (CNHS) grade 7 students,
notably the least performing students, will be the
participants in this study. The sample size for this study
will be 40 students, with each section having no more
than 10 low-performing students.
• Each piece of content will be distributed while the
science teachers gathered the low-grade outputs,
performance tasks, and worksheets.
DATA ANALYSIS
• Rubrics based on the science subject's Most Essential Learning
Competency will be used to grade the participants. Pre- and
post-intervention data were analyzed. The findings of the pre-
and post-intervention can be used to determine the
effectiveness of the intervention material.

• The researcher chose inferential statistics, specifically the

t-test method, to determine whether two groups' means are
statistically different.
