What is Business Analysis

Business analysis is defined as the practice of enabling change in an enterprise by defining needs and
recommending solutions that deliver value to stakeholders.

Who is a Business Analyst

Business analyst is the person who performs the work of business analysis. This role has got different
names in the industry but essentially they perform work which is same / similar to the work of
business analyst

Business Analyst is a new role. Currently


lot of focus is given to this role.

BA Vs Project Manager

A project manager is the person who is responsible for the overall success of the project. His/ Her
responsibility is to ensure that the project meets its objectives while ensuring the constraints of cost,
time, quality, risk etc.

Business analyst and project manager are two different roles with different objectives , however their
objectives are not mutually exclusive.

Business Analysis and IIBA

IIBA (International institute of business analysis) is an organization which provides standard for the
business analysis practice.

IIBA was founded in Toronto, Canada in October of 2003 and the first version of BABOK (Business
analysis body of knowledge ) came into existence in 2005.

There are various tasks which have been identified which needs to be completed as part of business
analysis work. This tasks are like planning business analysis approach, identifying stakeholders, conduct
elicitation, assess risks etc.
