INTRODUCTION

Road transport is essential for mobility of people and goods as well as it

contribute for India's development. The risk of road accidents exposes people to
injuries and fatalities.
 In the urban areas, the heavy road traffic makes the road crossing unsafe to the
pedestrians. This concept aims to avoid accidents happening in the
pedestrian crossing of traffic signals.
 The pedestrian collisions occur due to the unethical behavior of the drivers
skipping the signals, these accidents can be prevented by introducing
automatic beep sound so that the drivers can stay away from the zebra
crossing.
PROBLEM STATEMENT

 At crossing roads in each zebra crossing, many do not follow the

traffic light cues and in the end there are many accidents that
cannot be avoided.
 With the intelligent automatic zebra crossing system, it will focus on
pedestrian security by using Arduino Uno, Servo motor and RGB
diffused common cathode that will help run this system.
 The overview of the work is to warn both the driver and pedestrian
so that they can easily take another action before the collision.
 The system consists of active and passive protection of pedestrians
using automated zebra crossing system.
 This results indicated that the proposed system can make the
pedestrian to cross the road easily.
OBJECTIVES

 The main objective of this research is to trace out the

pedestrians safety while crossing the road, by examining the
effects of pedestrian characteristics on pedestrians crossing
behaviour.
 To identify the significant factors that affect pedestrian crossing
speed in crosswalks at both controlled and uncontrolled
intersections, To determine the most significant factor affecting
pedestrian compliance behaviour.
 To provide practical solution that can be improved upon in
future.
 It also helps the drivers to follow the traffic rule effectively.

METHODOLOGY
It is the simplest circuit diagram to show the working of Zebra Crossing System, it
includes Arduino UNO,Servo motor, power supply, buzzer,7 segment display &
LED. Here the Arduino uno can be operated as per the code & the power supply will
give required & sufficient power to the circuit, initially barrier is open for vehicle
side and close for pedestrian Side, during this time signal is RED for vehicle and
GREEN for pedestrian. The 7 segment is used to count the time from 9 sec to 0 sec,
after completion 9 sec signal turns to YELLOW for 3 sec then signal turns GREEN
for vehicle and RED for pedestrian. The barrier for vehicle is closed and barrier for
pedestrian is open, after 9 sec same operation is repeated. This whole process is kept
inside a loop where the servo motor is reset after every complete execution, the
small delay periods in between are including as a safety feature.
METHODOLOGY

SOFTWARE :
⦁ There is one main software used in developing this project

(i) Arduino software

o Arduino software is used to write program using C language and Arduino
language.
o It is also used to compile and install the program into the microcontroller.
o Besides, it also has a function to monitor the distance between obstacle and PIR
(Passive infrared) sensor.
METHODOLOGY
HARDWARE :
(i) Arduino UNO:
.

The Arduino UNO is an open source microcontroller board, it is based on the

microchip ATmega328P microcontroller and developed by arduino.cc. The board is
equipped with a multiple set of digital and analog input/output pins, which has 14
digital I/O pins,(6 capable of PWM output),and 6 analog I/O pins.it is programmable
with the Arduino IDE (integrated development environment)via TYPE B USB cable,
it can be powered by USB cable or any external 9-volt battery, which accepts
voltages between 7-20 volts.
(ii) Servo motor:
In this design servo motor is used for controlling the gates that allows the vehicle in and out
of the parking area. It produces torque of 2.5Nm with the operating voltage of 4.8-6V. Servo motor's
pin1 is supplied with VSS, pin2 is connected to d3 point of Arduino uno, pin3 is grounded.

(iii) Buzzer:
A buzzer or beeper is an audio signalling device, which may be mechanical, electro
mechanical or piezoelectric. Magnetic buzzers are essentially current driven devices,
typically requiring more than 20mA to operate, the applied voltage can be as low as
1.5V or up to about 12V.

(iv) LED:
LED is a highly energy efficient- less heat, more light and lower cost.it use less
electricity
the same for the same light output-85% less electricity when compared to conventional
lighting and around 18% less electricity compared to CFL. led can make a big impact on
energy use.
(v)Seven Segment display:
A 7segment display is a form of electronic display device for displaying decimal
numerals that is an alternative to the more complex dot matrix displays, they are
widely used in digital clocks, electronics meters, basic calculators, and other
Electronic devices that display numerical information.

(vi)Jumper wires:
A jump wire is an electrical wire or group of them in a cable, with a connector
or pin at each end, which is normally used to interconnect the components of a
breadboard or other prototype or test circuit, internally or with other
equipment or components, without soldering.

There are three types:

(a)Male to Male
(b)Male to Female
(c) Female to Female
EXECUTION PLAN

 First, we have gone through the research papers on “ Automated

Zebra Crossing System”.
 Then, we gathered the information about the project(like what
components are needed).
 We analysed the design of circuit and implementation.
 We estimated the over all cost of the project.
 At last we prepared the project report
