INTRODUCTION

DEFINITION
The Sustainable Development Goals are
the blueprint to achieve a better and more
sustainable future for all.
-UNITED
NATIONS
The Sustainable Development Goals or
Global Goals are a collection of
seventeen interlinked objectives designed
to serve as “shared blueprint for peace
and prosperity for people and the planet
now and into the future.”
GOAL 1- END POVERTY IN ALL ITS FORMS
EVERYWHERE
Globally the number of people living in extreme
poverty declined from 36 percent in 1990 to 10
percent in 2015. but the pace of change is
decelerating and the covid 19 crisis risk reversing
decades of progress in the fight against poverty.

More than 700 million people or 10 percent of the


world population still live in extreme poverty
today, struggling to fulfil the most basic needs like
health, education, access to water and sanitation
TARGETS
• 1.1- by 2030 eradication of extreme poverty.
• 1.2- by 2030 reduce half of the proportion of people living in
poverty.
• 1.3- implement nationally appropriate social protection system.
• 1.4- all poor man and women have equal right to economic
resources.
• 1.5- build resilience of the poor and vulnerable.
• 1.A- ensure significant mobilization of resources.
• 1.B- create sound policy at national and
international level.
GOAL 2- ZERO HUNGER

After decades of steady decline of


people who suffer from hunger it
slowly increase again in 2015. today
daily more than 820 million people
go to bed hungry.
Increasing agricultural productivity
and sustainable food production are
crucial to help alleviate the perlis of
hunger.
TARGETS
• 2.1- By 2030 end hunger and ensure access of food by all people
throughout the year.
• 2.2- by 2030 end all form of malnutrition.
• 2.3- by 2030 double the agricultural productivity.
• 2.4- by 2030 ensure sustainable food production system.
• 2.5- by 2020 maintain the gentle diversity of seeds.
• 2.A- increase investment in agriculture research and technology
development.
• 2.B- correct and prevent trade restrictions.
• 2.C- adopt measures to ensure proper functioning of food
commodity markets
GOAL 3- GOOD HEALTH AND WELL- BEING

Ensuring healthy lives and promoting


well being at all ages is essential to
sustainable development. Currently
the world is facing a global health
crisis unlike any other COVID-19 is
spreading human suffering
destabilizing the global economy and
upending the lives of billions of
people around the globe.
TARGETS

• 3.1- by 2030 reduce global maternal mortality ratio


• 3.2- by 2030 end preventable death of newborn and children under 5
• 3.3- by 2030 end the epidemics of AIDS, TB, malaria, hepatitis and
other communicable disease.
• 3.4- by 2030 reduce the one third premature mortality from non-
communicable disease.
• 3.5- strengthen the prevention and treatment of substance abuse
• 3.6- by 2020 halved the number of global death and injuries from RTA
• 3.7- By 2030 ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health
care services.
• 3.8- achieve universal health coverage including financial risk protection
• 3.9- by 2030 reduce the number of death and illness from hazardous
chemicals
• 3.A- strengthen the implementation of World Health Organization
Framework Convention on Tobacco Control
• 3.B- support the research and development of vaccines and medicines
• 3.C- substantially increase health financing and the recruitment
development
GOAL 4- QUALITY EDUCATION

Education enables upward


socioeconomic mobility and is a key
escaping poverty over the past
decades major progress was made
towards increasing access to
education and school enrollment
rates at all levels particularly for
girls.
TARGETS
• 4.1- by 2030 ensure that all girls and boys complete free quality
primary and secondary education
• 4.2-by 2030 ensure that all girls and boys have access to quality early
childhood development
• 4.3-by 2030 ensure equal access for all women and men to affordable
and quality technical vocational and tertiary education including
university.
GOAL 5- GENDER EQALITY

GENDER Gender equality is not only fundamental


human rights but necessary foundation for a
5 EQUALITY peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world.
There has been progress over the last
decades more girls are going to school
fewer girls are forced into early marriage
more woman serving in parliament and
position of leadership law are being
reformed to advance gender equality.
TARGETS
• 5.1- end all forms of discrimination against all women and girls
everywhere.
• 5.2- eliminate all forms of violence against all women and girls in the
public and private spheres.
• 5.3- eliminate all harmful practices such as child early and forced
marriage and female genital mutilation.
GOAL 6- ENSURE ACCESS TO WATER AND
SANITATION FOR ALL

While substantial progress has been made in


increasing access to clean drinking water
and sanitation billions of people mostly in
rural areas still lack these basics. Worldwide
one in three people do not have access to
safe drinking water two out of five people do
not have a basics handwashing facility with
soap and water and more than 673 million
people still practice open defecation.
TARGETS

• 6.1- by 2030, achieve universal and equitable access to safe and


affordable drinking water for all.
• 6.2- by 2030, achieve access to adequate and equitable sanitation and
hygiene for all and end open defecation.
• 6.3- by 2030, improve water quality by reducing pollution eliminating
dumping and minimizing release of hazardous chemicals and
materials.
GOAL 7- AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN ENERGY

With encouraging sign energy is becoming


more sustainable and widely available.
Access to electricity in poor countries has
begun to accelerate, energy efficiency
continues to improve and renewable energy is
making impressive gains in the electricity
sector.
TARGETS

• 7.1- by 2030 ensure universal access to affordable reliable and modern


energy services.
• 7.2- by 2030 increases substantially the share of renewable energy in
the global energy mix.
• 7.3- by 2030 double the global rate of improvement in energy
efficiency.
GOAL 8- DECENT WORK AND ECONOMIC GROWTH

Sustained and inclusive economic growth can


drive progress create decent jobs for all end
improve living standards.
COVID-19 has disrupted billions of lives and
endangered the global economy. As job losses
escalate the international labour organization
estimates that nearly half of the global
workforce is at risk of losing their livelihood.
GOAL 9- INDUSTRY, INNOVATION AND
INFRASTRUCTURE
Inclusive and sustainable industrialization
together with innovation and infrastructure
can unlash dynamic and competitive
economic forces that generate employment
and income.
They play a key role in introducing and
promoting new technologies facilitating
international trade and enabling the efficient
use of resources.
GOAL 10-REDUCE INEQUALITIES WITHIN AND
AMONG COUNTRIES
Reducing inequalities and ensuring no one is
left behind are integral to achieving the
sustainable development goals.
Inequality within and among countries is a
persistent cause for concern.
It has target of progressive achieve and sustain
income growth, empower and promote social
and political inclusion.
GOAL 11-SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITIES

The world is becoming increasing urbanized.


Since 2007 more than half the world’s
population has been living in cities and that
share is projected to rise to 60 percent by
2030.
Its target is to ensure adequate , safe and
affordable housing and basic services to all
and upgrade slums by 2030.
GOAL 12-RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND
PRODUCTION
Worldwide consumption and production- a
driving force of the global economy- rest on
the use of the natural environment and
resources in a way that continues to have
destructive impacts on the planet.
Its target is to implement 10 year framework
of program on sustainable consumption and
production of all countries.
GOAL 13-TAKE URGENT ACTION TO COMBAT
CLIMATE CHANGES AND ITS IMPACTS
2019 was the second warmest year on record and
the end of warmest decade (2010-2019) ever
recorded.
Climate changing is affecting every country on
every continent. It is disrupting national
economics and affecting lives. Whether pattern are
changing sea level are rising and whether events
are becoming more extreme.
Its target is to strengthen resilience and adaptive
capacity to climate related hazards and natural
disaster in all countries.
GOAL 14-CONSERVE AND SUSTAINABLY USE THE
OCEANS SEAS AND MARINE RESOURCES
The ocean drives global system that make the
earth habitable for humankind. Our rainwater,
drinking water, weather, climate coastlines
much of our food and even the oxygen in the
air we breathe are all ultimately provided and
regulate by the sea.
Its target is to prevent and significantly reduce
marine pollution of all kinds in particular from
land based activities including marine debris
and nutrient pollution by 2025.
GOAL 15-SUSTAINABLE MANAGE FORESTS COMBAT
DESERTIFICATION HALT AND RESERVE LAND
DEGRADATION HALT BIODIVERSITY LOSS
Nature is critical to our survival. Human
activity has altered almost 75 percent of the
earths surface squeezing wildlife and nature
into a ever smaller corner of the planet.
Its target is to ensure conservation, restoration
and sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystem and
their services, in particular forests wetlands,
mountains and drylands.
GOAL 16- PEACE JUSTICE AND STONG INSTITUTION
Conflict insecurity weak institutions and
limited access to justice remain a great threat to
sustainable development.
In 2019 the United Nations tracked 357 killings
and 30 enforced disappearance of human rights
defenders journalists and trade unionists in 47
countries.
Its targets is to significantly reduce all forms of
violence and related death rates everywhere.
GOAL 17-REVATILIZE THE GLOBAL PARTNESHIP FOR
SUSTAIBABLE DEVELOPMENT
The SDG can only be realized with strong global
partnership and cooperation.
A successful developmental agenda requires inclusive
partnership at he global regional national and local
levels, upon a shared vision and shared goal placing
people and the planet at the centre.
FINANCE
Its target is to strengthen domestic resources
mobilization, Including through international support
to developing countries to improve domestic capacity
for tax and other revenue collection.
TECHNOLOGY
Promote the development transfer dissemination and
diffusion of environmentally sound technologies to
developing countries on favorable terms.

CAPACITY BUILDING
Enhance international support for implementing
effective and targeted capacity building in developing
countries to support national plans.
ACHIEVEMENTS
• IN INDIA
India has made steady progress towards achieving the United Nations
Sustainable Development Goals in areas of health, energy and
infrastructure as per the latest NITI Aayog’s SDG India index which
shows the strides taken by the country in social, economic and
environmental development over the past year.
Since 2019, India’s overall scare across SDG’s has gone up from
60 to 66 in 2021 due to nation wide environment in ‘clean water
and sanitation’ and ‘affordable and clean energy’.
In 2021 India ranked 117 among 192 nation.
India’s overall score across SDG’s improved by 6 point from 60 in
2019 to 66 in 2020-21.
Kerala achieved the highest overall score in the index with its
efforts to tackle hunger and to provide quality education to
students closely followed by Himachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Mizoram, Haryana and Uttarakhand are the top gainers in 2020-
21 in terms of improvement in score from 2019.
WORLDWIDE
Considerable progress has been made on the availability of
internationally comparable data on the SDG’s. the number of indicators
included in the global SDG database increased from 115 in 2016 to
around 160 in 2019 and 211 in 2021.
