and relate its importance at the workplace.

management principles.
• To discuss OSH management issues in Malaysia and OSH
history leading to the Malaysian Occupational Safety and
Health Act (OSHA) 1994.
• To provide an insight on the various governing bodies in
Malaysia related to occupational safety, health, and welfare

OSH Governing Bodies

Ministry of Human Resources

• Encompasses employer’s and employee’s safety, health and welfare


aspects.

National Council for Occupational Safety and Health

• Carry out the objectives of OSHA 1994.


• Carry out investigations and make reports and recommendations.
• Formulate, make changes, improve and execute national safety and
health policies and legislations
Department of OSH

• Formulating OSH Standards, OSH Laws and regulations, advisory


OSH department to the ministry and Malaysian government.
• Develop OSH guidelines such as; First Aid, risk assessment,
medical surveillance, codes of practices (such as diseases like
AIDS,HIV, viruses).

Social Security Organization (SOCSO)

• Protection by social insurance to reduce sufferings and to


provide aid financially to the employee and his family when the
employee exposed to accidents or fatal deaths at workplace.
National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)

• To provide training, consultancy, research, information and dissemination on OSH.

Fire and Rescue Service Department (BOMBA)

• To provide rescue and fire fighting exercises.


• To carry out building inspection and assessment, and issuance of fire certificate on
fitness for occupancy (CFO) of premises.
• To provide humanitarian services to protect lives and property.
• To carry out investigation into the causes and circumstances of fire.

Local Town Councils and Government Authorities

• Ensure public safety, health and hygiene, general state of cleanliness, issuance of
operating licenses on food outlets, control outbreak of diseases, wastes disposal
services and so forth.
SIRIM Berhad

• National agency for industrial development and offers wide range of


consultancy services such as ISO management system.

Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB)

• To promote professionalism, quality of services, development, expansion


and improvement in the construction industry.

Ministry of Trade and Industry

• Ensure all potential investors and employers who invest or set up


business in Malaysia to comply to all Malaysian National laws and
regulations and cultural requirement.
