Rules in Differentiation

This document discusses the basic rules of differentiation. It introduces differentiation and the derivative as the instantaneous rate of change of a function. It then outlines 7 fundamental rules: 1) the derivative of a constant is zero, 2) the power rule, 3) the constant multiple rule, 4) the sum and difference rule, 5) the product rule, 6) the quotient rule, and 7) the extended power rule. Examples are provided for each rule to demonstrate how to take the derivative of various functions.

Rules in Differentiation

Differentiation
Differentiation is also known as derivative.
The derivative is the instantaneous rate of
change of a function with respect to one of
its variables.
Let f(x) be a function.
Notation/s: f’(x), y’, , Dx y, Dx f(x)
Basic Rules in Differentiation
1. Constant function rule
The derivative of a constant function f(x) = A,
where A is a constant, is zero.

Example/s: Solve the derivative of the ff.

1. f(x) = 1000 2. f(x) = e 3. g(x) = π

2. Power Rule

3. Constant times a function
If k is a real number, then the derivative of is
equal to the constant “k” times the derivative
of the function f(x).
