Basic Mathematics, Basic Identities and Its Applications DPP - 11th Class

This document contains 16 problems related to basic mathematics and identities. It presents equations involving variables like x, y, a, b, c and asks to evaluate expressions or find values based on the given equations. It also provides the solutions to each problem at the end in a separate section. The problems cover a range of concepts like solving simultaneous equations, factorization, simplification and applying identities. The goal seems to be practicing various basic mathematical operations and reasoning skills.

Q6. If a2 + b2 + c2 = 10 and a + b + c = 0, then the value of ab + bc + ca is equal to

A 5

B 10

C −5

D None of these
Solution:

We know that (a + b + c)2 = a2 + b2 + c2 + 2ab + 2bc + 2ca

⇒ (a + b + c)2 = a2 + b2 + c2 + 2(ab + bc + ca)
⇒ 0 = 10 + 2(ab + bc + ca)
⇒ ab + bc + ca = −5
Q7. If (a + 3b) = 6, show that a3 + 27b3 + 54ab = 216.
Solution:
Q8. Evaluate 933 − 1073.

Q11. If a + b + c = 15 and a2 + b2 + c2 = 83, find the value of a3 + b3 + c3 − 3abc.
Solution:
Q12. If x + y + z = 1, xy + yz + zx = −1 and xyz = −1, find the value of x 3 + y3 + z3.
Solution:

x3 + y3 + z3 - 3xyz = (x + y + z)(x2 + y2 + z2 - xy - yz - zx)

⇒ x3 + y3 + z3 - 3xyz
= (x + y + z)(x2 + y2 + z2 + 2xy + 2yz + 2zx - 3xy - 3yz - 3zx)
[Adding the subtracting 2xy + 2yz + 2zx]
⇒ x3 + y3 + z3 - 3xyz = (x + y + z) {(x + y + z)2 - 3(xy + yz + zx)}
⇒ x3 + y3 + z3 - 3(- 1) = 1 × {(1)2 - 3(-1)}
[Putting the values of x + y + z, xy + yz + zx and xyz]
⇒ x3 + y 3 + z 3 + 3 = 4
⇒ x3 + y 3 + z 3 = 4 - 3 = 1
