ASSIGNMENTS
 The assignments must be submitted in A4 size
(11.69” X 8.27”) offset papers.
 It must be written by hand on one side of the
papers.
 Assignments will be assigned after the topic will
be covered.
 They will be due one week after they have been
assigned.
 If the assignments are submitted in late, 10%
marks will be deducted for each day it is late
past the original due date.

ASSIGNMENTS
 Solution will be available from the co-instructor
and on the website after the problems are
returned.
 No assignment will be accepted after the
solution have been posted.
 Assignments must be completed and submitted
individually.
 Simply copying from another student or from a
solutions manual is not acceptable and will not
be tolerated.

Guidelines for submitting assignments
 Use good quality paper, such as 80 gm A4 offset
paper, white color with no spiral edges.
 Write on only one side of paper.
 Either pen or pencil is acceptable.
 Use a top sheet including your name, student
number & section as well as the course number,
name & assignment number.
 Include student number & page number on each
sheet.
 Neatly box all answers including appropriate
units.
 Show all work.

If the above guidelines are not followed, the


Course Teacher will either reject the entire
assignment for extreme cases, or deduct points for
items that do not conform to the guidelines.

CLASS TESTS
 Four class tests will be taken for this course.
 Each class test will be of 20 to 30 minutes
duration.
 Best three of them will be counted.
 All students must attend the class tests.
 If anyone is absent, there will be no chance to
take the CT again for him/her.

TERM FINAL EXAM


 All students must attend the term final exam.
 If anyone is absent, then he/she must register for
the course again and must attend the exam.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

 To learn about the purpose of soil investigation,


methods of sub–surface soil investigation, in situ
test methods of soil investigation.
 To learn about slope stability, slope failure
pattern, factor of safety of slope.
 To learn methods of determining bearing
capacity of shallow footing, mat foundation and
pile.
 To have knowledge on computation of soil
settlement under foundation.
