LOCATION

◈ Assam is originally situated in the north east of India
◈ It is bounded to the north by Bhutan and the state of
Arunachal Pradesh to the east by the states of Nagaland
and Manipur to the south by the states of Mizoram and Tripura and
to the west by Bangladesh and the states of Meghalaya and
West Bengal
CLIMATE
◈ The climate of Assam is typically ‘tropical monsoon rainfall’ type, with high levels of
humidity and heavy rainfall.
◈ People here enjoy a moderate climate all throughout the year, with warm summers and
mild winters
◈ In the monsoon season, the whole state comes alive with the beauty of nature. Climatic
variations can be seen regionally.
◈ While the plains of Assam have a tropical climate with high humidity, the hills have a
sub-alpine type of climate
◈ There are four distinct seasons in Assam - summer, monsoon, autumn and winter. The
best time to visit the place is the winter season i.e. from October to April, which is also
the festive season of Assam

TYPES OF CLOTHES
Churia or Dhoti. In the past, men used to wear an unstitched lower garment called the
churia or bhuni.
Ghagra/Ghuri. Like in other parts of India, ghagra was also used in different
theatrical performances such as bhaona, songs, dances, etc.
NEAREST RAIL/BUS/AIRPORT
Assam is well connected with Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai and other major cities of India via
national carrier and private airlines. Guwahati’s Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International
Airport is the nearest airport which is only 25 km away from the city.
By Rail
You can travel to Assam with ease as there are direct train services from Calcutta, New
Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Cochin and Trivandrum to Guwahati, the rail hub of
Assam.
By Road
You can easily reach Assam via road. Highways are pretty much smooch, so you don’t feel
any pain of jerk in your back while traveling in bus to approach Assam.

◈ Assam is known for its wildlife, Assam is a state in
northeastern India known for its wildlife, archeological
sites and tea plantations. In the west, Guwahati, Assam’s
largest city, features silk bazaars and the hilltop Kamakhya
Temple. Umananda Temple sits on Peacock Island in the
Brahmaputra river. The state capital, Dispur, is a suburb of
Guwahati. The ancient pilgrimage site of Hajo and Madan
Kamdev, the ruins of a temple complex, lie nearby.
