A few words…
• Gaming = the practice or activity of • Video Game = an electronic game in
playing computer or video games which players control images on a video screen
What’s this?
Gaming is an extremely popular activity
worldwide. The number of people who play
games is estimated to be over 3 billion.
Some estimates put the worldwide gaming
market value between $180 billion and
$220 billion in 2022. This is about double
the market for the global film industry. The
majority of the gaming market is people
playing games on their smartphones.
History
The word gaming originated in the 15th century to refer to
gambling in dice or card games. Gaming was used to refer to
gambling until the late 1900s, where it was applied to playing
recreational board games and pen-and-paper role-playing
games. With the introduction of video games in the 1970s, the
term gaming became more associated with its current use.
A casual gamer is someone who irregularly plays games or who only plays
a single low-intensity game.

A hardcore gamer is someone who regularly plays video games. They


usually own dedicated video game devices, such as consoles or gaming
PCs.

A professional gamer is someone who makes money or supports


themselves by playing games.
Alien’s Language or…?
• AFK – short for ‘away from keyboard’. Nowadays not exclusively used
just by gamers
• Camper – a person who sits in one spot for a long time, waiting for other
players to find them - ‘tactically hiding’.
• Checkpoint – Specific point where the gameplay is auto saved. Usually
takes a million tries to get to it.
• Cheesing – using no skill to defeat the enemies (hiding, using
overpowered ability, driving a vehicle in a BR game)
• Get Rekt / Git Rekt -intentionally misspelled ‘get wrecked’
• HP – The health of a player’s character is often measured by Health or
hit points.
• Noob / n00b – newbie, a person who is not skilled enough yet. Usually
used in a derogatory manner. This word has also spread outside the
gaming community.
• L2P – Learn to Play!
• Mob / Mobs – refers to computer controlled living entities. It’s short for
‘mobile’.
GG WP EZ NOOB
• HUD – Head-up display showing all the
necessary information like character’s
health, map, chat, weapons, etc.

• LFG / LFP – Looking For Group /


Looking For Party is a term used by
gamers who are looking for a squad or clan
to play games with. Here also LFR –
Looking for retar… I mean… looking for
raid in World of Warcraft.

• Loot / drop – items, currency or


experience that can be obtained several
ways in game, either by killing enemies,
finding treasure or picking stuff off the
ground.
