    which create, enforce, and apply laws.
    They often mediate conflict, make
    (governmental) policies with regards to
    the economy and social systems, and
    otherwise provide representation for the
    populous.
    WHAT ARE THE
    THREE BRANCHES
    OF THE
    GOVERNMENT?
    What is the difference
    between political structures
    and political institutions?
    POLITICAL
    STRUCTURES are specific.
    It pertains to the executive
    branch of government
    EXECUTIVE
    BRANCH is composed
    of President and the
    Vice President
    POLITICAL
    INSTITUTIONS are
    generic, and it pertains
    to legislative branch
    LEGISLATIVE BRANCH which
    comprises Senate with 24
    members and House Of
    Representatives not more than 250
    members including party list
    representative
    THE JUDICIAL BRANCH
    hold the power to settle the
    controversies involving the
    rights that are legally
    demandable and enforceable.
    Democracy works well
    when its political
    institutions perform
    functions assigned to them.
    The Constitution of any
    country lays down basic rules
    on the powers and functions of
    each institution.
    1987 Constitution of the Republic of
    the Philippines
    The basic principles and laws of a
    nation, state or social group that
    determine the powers and duties of the
    government and guarantee certain
    rights to the people in it.
    PREAMBLE
    We, the sovereign Filipino people, imploring the aid of
    Almighty God, in order to build a just and humane
    society, and establish a Government that shall embody
    our ideals and aspirations, promote the common good,
    conserve and develop our patrimony, and secure to
    ourselves and our posterity, the blessings of
    independence and democracy under the rule of law and
    a regime of truth, justice, freedom, love, equality, and
    peace, do ordain and promulgate this Constitution.
    IMPORTANCE OF INSTITUTIONS
    • Institutions are important in a democratic
    government because they ensure that the system
    runs according to the rule of law and not
    according to whims and fancies of a ruler.
    • It ensures justice and fairness in the system as the
    powers and jurisdiction of every institutions is
    clearly defined by the constitution.
    Social institutions are systems of
    behavioral and relationship patterns that are
    densely interwoven and enduring, and
    function across an entire society.

    •They order and structure the behavior of


    individuals by means of their normative
    character
    Family is very important in
    both from social and legal
    viewpoints. A family creates a
    stable and often unbreakable
    relationship.
