(interview, dialog, conversation)
EN7OL-I-b1.14
It is important to employ a variety of strategies for
effective interpersonal communication (interview,
dialog, conversation) because through
interpersonal communication, we, students can
build strong relationships with others. At the same
time, we are able to have better chances of
improved interaction. Thus, will help us enjoy
success in both personal and social lives.

between two persons.
5. In the process of interview, argumentation is essential.
9
Activity: Fact or Bluff?
Directions: Read the following sentences carefully. Answer T if the
statement is True and F if False.
6. Dialogue is a tedious speech by one person during a
conversation.
7. Keeping the purpose of an interview constantly in mind is
vital.
8. Conversation is an informal talk between two or more people
in which news and ideas are exchanged.
9. Verbal manifestation and disapproval in an interview should
be avoided.
10. Interview is a “pre-arranged” face to face conversation
between two people.
10
Communication is a
process by which
information is exchanged
between individuals
through a common system
of symbols, signs, or
behaviour. It is essential in
our everyday activities,
and is required in order to
function in any aspect of
life. It is considered to be
a dynamic or an ongoing
process where people
understand each other and
where a shared meaning is
created. 11
Interpersonal communication came into being when men
began to exchange ideas and thoughts to one another. It is a kind of
communication in which people convey their feelings, ideas,
emotions and information face to face. It is not only about what is
said and what is received but also about how it is said and how the
body language and facial expressions used (Sayuno 2019).
2. Be conscious, respectful and empathetic toward others. When you engage positive interpersonal
skills, you allow others to express themselves without automatically jumping on them- meaning that
you are genuinely listening to what they have to say.
3. Actively listen to others. Listening is a skill that must be developed and honed. By listening to
understand rather than listening to respond, you demonstrate that what the person you are speaking
with has to say is important to you.
4. Avoid talking over others or speaking for them. It allows the person to have time to finish their
thoughts and do not presume to know what they want to say. Give them the respect they deserve by
giving them the time to say it for themselves.
5. Elaborate more by saying “yes” before saying “no”. It is about saying “yes” and building on it rather
than shutting down the conversation with a “no”.
