Intersubjectivity
 Interchange of thoughts and feelings, both conscious and
unconscious, between two persons or “subjects,”

 Coined from the prefix word “inter” which connotes


“among and between” and the philosophical term
“subject” that is equivalent to a conscious being

 Our ability to engage in meaningful interaction with other
people, our surroundings, and everything around us is
rooted in our capacity for self-awareness and
transcendence. Interpersonal relations are made possible
when the self becomes aware of other, which include
everyone and everything outside of the self.
Self Consciousness
 Considered by philosophers as a defining characteristic of
the self-other relationship

“seeming”
 An action where an individual presents himself or herself
in a certain way when dealing with others
What characterizes a
genuine human interaction?
Dialogue
 An interaction between persons that happens through
speech or the use of words, expression, and body
language.

 Apart from expressing and conveying oneself, the person


is also capable of receiving the words, thoughts,
emotions, and ideas of another person.

 Become a means by which person are able to share in


each other’s lives

Empathy
enables to experience another person’s emotions, such as
happiness, anger, and sadness

Availability
the willingness of the person to be present and be at the
disposal of another.
Ethics of Care
 an ethical theory that emphasizes the moral dimension of
relationships and interactions.

 encourages the individuals to help other people, most


especially the vulnerable
Alienation
 A negative human interaction wherein a person considers
others as merely objects or means to satisfy personal
interests or desires

 Goes against the concept of personhood because this


view discounts the humanity and dignity of the person
and leads to dehumanization

 Important values related to intersubjectivity include acceptance
of differences and embracing diversity. We understand that
each person is unique; therefore, differences will exist among
groups of people.

 This recognition drives us to extend assistance and act with


concern towards others, especially toward individual or groups
that experience hardships and discrimination such as the
people with physical or mental disability.
Hellen Keller (1880-1968)
 an American author, political activist, and the
first deaf blind person to earn a bachelor’s
degree

 She published an autobiography, The Story of


My Life, which described her life and
struggles growing up. The book becomes the
basis of a popular play titled The Miracle
Worker
Nicholas James ‘Nick’ Vujicic
 He is an Australian evangelist and
motivational speaker who was born with
phocomelia, a condition in which a person
is born with no arms or legs

 He graduated with a degree of Commerce


and went on to pursue a career as a
motivational speaker and evangelist. In
2005, he founded Life without Limbs, a
non-profit organization and ministry
Roselle Ambubuyog
 the first visually impaired Filipino to
graduate summa cum laude from Ateneo de
Manila University 2001

 she was consistent academic honoree in


her school, graduating valedictorian in both
elementary and high school
