INTRODUCTION OF AFROZ SHAH FOUNDATIO
History :
Afroz Shah Foundation, founded by Adv.
Afroz Shah, is a philanthropic foundation
registered under Section 8 of the
Companies Act 2013. The foundation is a
marriage between Gandhian philosophy
of a citizen’s movement and 21st century
structured formal set up to carry out
philanthropic activities.

SERVICE
ACTIVITIES :
• Cleaning beaches
• Cleaning mangroves
• Toilet clean ups in the human-ocean conflict
zone.
• Making 43 villages of Sanjay Gandhi National
Park garbage free.
• Spot Cleaning in human-ocean and human-
animal conflict zones.

FIRST DAY OF ORIENTATION
• We had an orientation wherein we were given
information about the general state of pollution
in our country and the adverse effects of
pollution by plastic and other wastes.
• The purpose of the orientation was to guide
us, about how the community service will take
place and our role in the community service.
• Our organisation has three main zones in
which the community service takes place,
namely : Sanjay Gandhi national park,
Versova beach and Mithi RIver.
• Our group was allotted the Versova beach for
community service. Our team leader Amit sir
gave us information on how the service would
be progressing.

SERVICE PROVIDED BY US :
AT VERSOVA:
Our first task was to segregate dry waste. The dry waste had various
categories in it :
1) Plastic : LDP, HDP, EP, One time use, Multilayer Plastics.

2) Pouches of milk
3) Pouches of oil
4) Carboard
5) Paper
6) Perfume cans
7) Plastic bottles
8) Hard Plastic.

DRY WASTE
After segregating these different types of materials in
different bags, we were given the task of collecting
COLLECTION
dry waste from the nearby localities which we would
be segregating after the collection was completed.
• We went from building to building, and asked for
dry waste
• Collected the dry waste in a bag of plastic which
was made with the help of all the waste plastics
collected.
• Kept the bag of dry waste at a particular location.
• A tempo carries those bags of dry waste to the
main center of segregation.
• Then we segregate the dry waste into different
categories.

MANGROVES
• We visited mangroves
• Pulled out plastics and other wastes from the mud
• Loaded the waste on a truck
• The truck carries waste to the main centre
• We were given some information on how do
mangroves work and they protect us from floods
and water logging.
• We were also introduced to the workers that work
in the mangroves

Beach Clean-up
• We had beach cleanups on Sunday
• We visited Dana Pani and Versova
beach for beach cleanup
• Removed plastic from sand and
water
• Loaded the waste in tractors that
carry it to the main centre
• Segregated the waste

• We went to a pada where we approached various
people and informed them about the tea , soap
and detergent we were ready to sell to them at a
lower cost than the market .
• We would bring it to them every Sunday where
they could take the amount they want.
• The main aim for selling these products from
house to house was to reduce plastics
• We did spot clean-ups, where the we went to a
particular location where people burned their
waste and also dumped their waste.

CONCLUSION
Experiences gained:
We gained the experience of hard work and struggle that some people have
to go through in their day to day lives just to get their earnings.
Skills Acquired:
• We acquired the skills of managing people
• Skills to work hard under pressure conditions
• Skills to be patient
• Skills to listen to people carefully and execute tasks efficiently
• Helping the people in need and understanding their problems.

FUTURE PLAN
• To reduce the use of plastic to almost null.
• To use recyclable products that do not cause harm to the
environment.
• To teach people the importance of environment.
• To put our best possible efforts in cleaning the environment.
• Participating in beach clean-ups and other events of clean-
ups.
