Pre Defend Power Point Presentation

This document outlines a study on using fermented plant juice and eggshell powder as nutrient solutions for lettuce in hydroponic production. The study aims to determine the efficacy of these solutions by measuring the number of leaves, plant height, leaf area index, yield, and return on investment. A randomized complete block design will be used, with four treatments - a commercial nutrient solution, fermented plant juice, a mix of both solutions, and fermented plant juice with eggshell powder. Data on plant growth and yield will be collected and analyzed using ANOVA. The results could provide an alternative low-cost nutrient solution for hydroponic farmers.

1. Explaining the Title
EFFICACY OF FERMENTED PLANT JUICE (FPJ) ADDED WITH EGGSHELL POWDER AS
NUTRIENT SOLUTION IN LETTUCE (Lactuca sativa L.) HYDROPONIC PRODUCTION
Explaining the Title

 Research Problem
 Since hydroponics is very popular and people has ventured this since its boom
during the pandemic, the problem I wanted to investigate is how to reduce
hydroponic farming’s dependency to commercial nutrient solutions.
 The Variables
 Independent Variables (Cause)
 The independent variables of the study are the different nutrient solutions
that will be applied to the experimental organism (Lettuce)
 Dependent Variables (Effect)
 Dependent variable of the study will be the corresponding response of the
experimental organism (Lettuce) to the different nutrient solutions applied.

PRODUCTION
2. Importance of the Study
Importance of the Study

 Hydroponics for many countries helped their yield to be enhanced.

 Conserved water effectively
 Uses less space
 Known to produce vegetables with high nutrient content
 Produces vegetables faster than traditional growing methods
 No weeds
 Zero soil
 Fewer pesticides
 Extended growing season
3. Significance of the Study
Significance of the Study

To find an alternative farming system

that has low-cost farm inputs
To show that hydroponics can be done
by a typical farmer.
Accommodate present food problems
4. Objectives of the Study
Objectives of the Study

 Generally, this research aims to determine the efficacy of

fermented plant juice (FPJ) added with eggshell powder as
nutrient solution in lettuce hydroponic production.
 Specifically, the study aims to determine the following
parameters;
1. Number of leaves (pcs.)
2. Height of plants (cm)
3. Leaf area index (cm²)
4. Yield (t/ha)
5. Return of Investment
5. Scope and Delimitation of the
Study
Scope and Delimitation of the Study

 This study shall focus on the efficacy of fermented

plant juice added with eggshell powder as nutrient
solution in lettuce hydroponic production. It is
delimitated to the following parameters:
1. Number of leaves (pcs.)
2. Height of plants (cm)
3. Leaf area index (cm²)
4. Yield (t/ha)
5. Return of Investment
6. Materials
Materials

The materials to be used in the study are

styroboxes, SNAP solution, fermented plant
juice (FPJ), ph meter tester, lettuce seeds,
seedling tray, cutter, sprayer, coco peat,
scissors, tables, hand trowel, water, ruler,
weighing scale, eggshells, shade net,
strainer, posts, post hole digger, nails,
hammer and mortar & rock.
7. Methods
Methods (Experimental Design and

 The experimental design of the study will be laid out in a
Complete Randomized Design (CRD) which will be divided
into 4 treatments and 3 replicates. The treatments are as
follows :
 T1 – SNAP Solution (2.5ml)
 T2 – Fermented Plant Juice (2.5ml)
 T3 – FPJ (1.25ml) + SNAP Solution (1.25ml)
 T4– FPJ (1.25ml) w/5g eggshell powder + SNAP Solution

Cultural management practices

1. Preparation of the Shade net house

2. Collection of eggshells
3. Making the fermented plant juice
4. Sowing the lettuce seeds
5. Planting and application of the different solutions
9. Data collection procedure
Data collection procedure

1. Number of leaves
 Thiswill be done by counting the leaves produced by lettuce
weekly towards its growing period
2. Heights of plants
 This will be done by measuring the initial height one week after
transplanting and final height during harvest from the ground level
up to the tip of the terminal end of the main stem using ruler
3. Leaf area index
 Leaf area will be calculated by multiplying the product of the
length (L) and width (W) by a constant.
Data collection procedure

4. Yield (t/ha)
 Yield per hectare (Y) =
5. Return of Investment
 × ₁₀₀
10. Plans for Data Analysis
Plans for Data Analysis

The data to be gathered will be

tabulated and analyzed using the
analysis of variance (ANOVA) using
Microsoft office excel. Post hoc test
will also be undertaken if it resulted to
significance at any level.
