Types of Graphs

This document discusses different types of graphs used to represent data visually. It describes bar graphs as using bars or rectangles to represent numerical values of variables of equal width, line graphs as connecting data points over time to show trends, and pie charts as dividing data into proportional slices to illustrate percentages. The uses of each graph type are also outlined, with bar graphs to compare categorical data, line graphs to analyze trends over time, and pie charts to display proportional compositions.

Types

of
Graphs
In math, a graph can be defined as a
pictorial representation or a diagram
that represents data or values in an
organized manner. The points on the
graph often represent the relationship
between two or more things.
Types of Graph
•Bar Graph is a diagram in which
numerical values of variables are
represented by the height or length of
lines or rectangles of equal width
Types of Graph
• Line Graph displays data that changes
continuously over time. Each line graph
consists of points that connect data to show
trends
Types of Graph
•Pie Chart it displays data and
statistical in an easy-to-understand
pie-slice format and illustrates
numerical proportions
Uses of Bar Graph
 To display data that are grouped into nominal or ordinal
categories
 To compare data among different categories
 Show large data changes over time
 Ideal for visualizing the distribution of data when we have
more than three categories
Uses of Line Graph
 To show trends
 Make predictions
 Comparing two or more different variables
Uses of Pie Chart
 When you want to create and represent the composition of
something
 It is very useful for displaying nominal or ordinal categories of
data
 To show percentage or proportional data
 When comparing areas of growth within a business such as profit
• Work best for displaying data for 3 to 7 categories
