ANOVA Presentation

This document discusses ANOVA (analysis of variance) which is a statistical technique used to compare groups. It introduces ANOVA, describes how it works using formulas to compare mean sum of squares, and discusses types of ANOVA including one-way and two-way. Limitations, restrictions, sample size requirements, and applications of ANOVA are also covered.

INTRODUCTION

WHAT IS ANOVA? THE ANOVA MODEL

• To find out if the results of a It can be written as:
survey are sufficient, an ANOVA x ij = μ i + ε ij
test is conducted.
• In 1918, Ronald Fisher
developed the analysis of
variance test to find out how
various factors influence
different outcomes.
HOW DOES ANOVA WORK?

By comparing the variables, the -F stands for ANOVA Coefficient

-MST stands for mean sum of square for treatment
formula is: -MSE stands for mean sum of square for error
-MSB = Mean sum of squares between the groups
-MSW = Mean sum of squares within the groups
F= MST -MSE = Mean sum of squares due to error
-SST = total Sum of squares
MSE -p = Total number of populations
MST = SST/ p-1 -n = The total number of samples in a population
-SSW = Sum of squares within the groups
MSE = SSE/N-p -SSB = Sum of squares between the groups
-SSE = Sum of squares due to error
SSE = ∑ (n−1)s2 -s = Standard deviation of the samples
-N = Total number of observations
TYPES OF ANOVA

or not all samples are the same. • It has two independents.
• Differences between the means • It is a test to find out how two
can be found through one-way factors effect each other.
test
MANOVA
• An extension of ANOVA as it includes various dependent variables.
• It is used to find out the changes on response variables by changing
independent variables.
• It helps I conducting multiple tests.
• It helps in omitting errors.
• However, it is difficult to use.
LIMITATIONS
• The test samples for analysis are based on assumptions.
• The data is not distributed normally which does not provide accurate
results.
• The standards of variables are based on assumptions that they are
same.
• It performs only one comparison at a time.
RESTRICTIONS

ANOVA T-Test

statistics. • T-test produces t value for
statistics.
SAMPLE SIZE IN ANOVA
• There is no maximum requirement for a sample size.
• It is important to keep the statistical power in mind or else the results
will be inaccurate.
• ANOVA test can be performed on a minimum of 3 samples.
• There is no maximum limit for test subjects in ANOVA but more than
2 are needed.
