BP British Petroleum Company

Prepared By:
Dhafer Abdualhakim star
Introduction

 BP, also referred to by its former name British Petroleum, is one

of the world's six "supermajor" oil and gas companies. It has a
primary listing on the London Stock Exchange and is a
constituent of the FTSE 100 Index; it has secondary listings on
the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange.
History of BP

 It was established in 1908 to explore for oil in Iran and then

Libya, and its name was then the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company
until 1945, when it bore the name of British Petroleum.
 BP has a long history of oil exploration and production in Iraq.
This history stretches right back to the 1920s when the company
that would eventually come to be known as BP helped Iraq
locate, produce and export oil from Baba Gurgur, Kirkuk. This
was the largest oilfield in the world at that time. This
collaboration in Iraq continued up to the early 1970s, with the
Zubair field being discovered in 1948 and the supergiant oilfield,
Rumaila, in 1953.
History of BP

 In 2009, BP became the first International Oil Company to come

back to Iraq after a period of 35 years.  Between 2003 and 2006,
BP had conducted a technical evaluation of the Rumaila field with
the Ministry of Oil and in 2009 BP and PetroChina were awarded
a Technical Service Contract to transform production at Rumaila
with the South Oil Company (SOC). BP, PetroChina and SOC are
working in partnership to develop the second largest field in the
world.
 BP is now also working with the North Oil Company (NOC) on the
redevelopment of the Kirkuk field having signed an agreement in
September 2013 to provide technical assistance. Rumaila is
estimated to have around 20 billion barrels of recoverable oil
remaining, while Kirkuk has around 9 billion.
History of BP

 BP's philosophy in Rumaila and, most recently in Kirkuk, is

based on a belief that all our partners have something positive to
contribute. We are privileged to be working with the Iraqi people:
they bring a significant depth of knowledge and an extraordinary
determination to succeed. BP is bringing world class technology,
processes and systems, helping to lay the foundations for long-
term success in Iraq.
 With the majority of the world's giant oilfields in decline, the
importance of Rumaila and Kirkuk to the future of oil production
both inside and outside Iraq is clear.
History Of BP

 Rumaila will benefit from over 100 years of BP experience in

pioneering technologies and working at the frontiers in the most
challenging environments. Reservoir management expertise is
particularly important to boosting recovery and production – from
seismic surveying technologies and subsurface analysis to well
optimisation, drilling and reservoir rehabilitation.
 BP estimates that the known fields can produce another ca 20 billion
barrels to add to the 12 billion barrels that have already been
produced. Rumaila holds 15-20% of the country’s total reserves, and
current production levels from this one field account for over 40% of
Iraq’s total production. Rumaila’s revenues account for around 50%
of Iraq’s total GDP.
Refinery
 Cherry Point Refinery
Our US refineries represent about 40% of bp’s global refining capacity, and we are excited
about the potential to reimagine our facilities as integrated low carbon energy hubs and
manufacturing centers.Cherry Point processes approximately 250,000 barrels of crude oil per
day. It is the largest supplier of jet fuel to the Seattle, Portland and Vancouver (BC)
international airports, and is also a significant supplier of anode-grade calcined coke.
 Whiting Refinery

It is the largest in the Midwest and ,

bp’s largest anywhere in the world – ,
making enormous contributions to the ,
region’s transportation network.

Able to process around 440,000 barrels ,

of crude oil every day Whiting ,
produces a wide range of liquid fuels ,
along with 7% of all asphalt in the
, United States.
BP Strategy

  BP strategy
BP aims to increase investment in its TGEs by up to $1 billion a year
on average, or up to a cumulative additional $8 billion to 2030. bp's
investment in its TGEs is now expected to reach $7-9 billion a year
in 2030(4) - with cumulative investment over 2023-2030 around $55-
65
BP vs Shell
 BP has more cost-efficient upstream operations than Shell
 BP’s operations are more environmentally-friendly when compared to
Shell
 BP’s profitability is more sensitive to oil price crashes
 BP’s upstream faces threats from Shell’s aggressive capital
expenditure plans over the next five years
 Shell has a clear competitive advantage in the near future
