Michael Beale - (1) Playing Forward (2) Movement between lines of Defence/Midfield/Forwards

18 Players and 2 GKs

1. Warm up Technique and Possession 20m

2b. Group 2 Defenders and midfielder 20m

Three groups of 6 players. Two touch combination play. Play out go out

3v3 +3 neutrals. Possession game to play forward and out to target neutrals

midfielder passes to the GK and runs to create a diamond with the two defs. Can we play out 4v2 to waiting midfielder?

GK, 4 defenders and 2 midfielders play out 7v5 against reds. Team must complete 5 passes to score a goal

2a. Group 1 Forwards and wide players 20m


The forwards and wide players work on movements to come off the line; to play between defenders and to make runs off the opponents shoulders (blindside)

3. Complete Group 6v4 Quick Games 20m


Four red players must defend their goal against the four blue attackers. The blue attackers are helped by the two yellow wide players who come off the line to disrupt the red teams defence and encourage forwards runs on the outside. In total there are four teams of players and two neutrals (18 players and 2 GKs)

Wide player off the line and between full back and centre back. Now the wide player is in a position to attack centre back and shoot at goal

Wide player now has overlapping full back to use in order to provide a cross for the centre forward

4. Complete Group - Free Play 20m


Two teams 10 v 10 game in half a full size pitch Tight spaces force players to make quick decisions in possession.

Now wide player slides a through pass for the centre forward to make a blindside run

Ball now goes to full back 1st, the wide player now makes a 2nd run to receive a ball down the side of the defence

Small distances allows for interchanges in position and quick combination play through overlaps and one-twos.
