PLAGIARISM
Technical Terms
Used in
Research
Research (noun), according to Merriam Dictionary,
is the collecting of information about a particular
subject. Research establishes facts and new
findings through a systematic investigation.

It follows a certain method for studying a certain


topic, answering a specific question(s), testing
specific hypothesis(es) or developing theory.
Research Paper

It is the product of careful or diligent inquiry


into the subject for the purpose of
discovering and interpreting facts and then
presenting them to a reader.
Benefits in doing Research
 It gives you the feeling that you have mastered a
certain subject, and that you have become an expert,
in some limited way, on the subject.
 You develop self-discipline in the process.
 You learn what the steps are in doing research.
 You develop habits that can help you throughout life.
 One final benefit is that you really begin to treasure
knowledge, and other people’s contributions to
building up that knowledge.
Questionnaire

 A questionnaire is a set of questions used to


gather information in a survey.
 A questionnaire is a research tool featuring
a series of questions used to collect useful
information from respondents.
Primary Source
 A primary source provides direct or first-hand
evidence about an event, object, person, or work of
art. Primary sources include historical and legal
documents, eyewitness accounts, results of
experiments, statistical data, pieces of creative
writing, audio and video recordings, speeches, and art
objects.
  It is the raw materials of history- original documents
and objects that were created at the time under study.
Secondary Source

 Secondary sources describe, summarize, or


discuss information or details originally
presented in another source. Examples of
secondary source are: Publications such as
textbooks, magazine articles, book reviews,
commentaries, encyclopedias, and
Almanacs.
Let’s try to identify which of these sources
are either primary or secondary one.
 The primary sources are Letters and
Diaries, Government Documents,
Manuscripts, Journals and Artifacts.

 The secondary sources are History


textbook, Video Tape Encyclopedia,
Newspaper, and Magazine.
Plagiarism
 Plagiarism occurs when ideas, information, and even
pictures are used without proper acknowledgement of
the original sources. American Psychological
Association (APA) style is most commonly used to cite
sources within the social sciences.
 Providing in-text citation or parenthetical
documentation of a quoted, summarized, or
paraphrased text from another source is a sure fire
method to avoid plagiarism.
Interview

 Interview is a conversational practice where


knowledge is produced through the
interaction between an interviewer and
interviewee or a group of interviewees.
  Interview Guide summarizes the content
that researchers cover during interviews.
