• One of the primary forces behind industrialization has been the use
of metals. Steel has traditionally occupied a top spot among metals. 
• The Indian steel industry is classified into three categories - major
producers, main producers and secondary producers. As of April
2022, India was the world's second-largest producer of crude steel,
with an output of 10.14 MT.
• Consequently, the steel sector has been a major contributor to India's
manufacturing output.

• JSW Steel is the flagship business of the diversified, US$ 22 billion JSW Group.
• JSW Steel is primarily engaged in the business of manufacture and sale of Iron and Steel
Products.
• Over the last three decades, it has grown from a single manufacturing unit to become
India’s leading integrated steel company with a capacity of 28.5 MTPA in India and the
USA
• Its next phase of growth will take its total capacity to 38.5 MTPA by FY25. 
• The Company’s manufacturing unit in Vijayanagar, Karnataka is the largest single-location
steel-producing facility in India with a capacity of 12 MTPA.

• JSW has entered into technological collaboration with JFE Steel Corp, Japan to
manufacture high strength and advanced high strength steel for the automobile
sector.
• Work on Rs 53700cr JSW steel project in Odisha.
• Expand steel making capacity Rs 28000 crores.
• Mega steel plant and infra structure by investing 550B.
• To strengthen its global network, the Company has also acquired a Pipe and Plate
making steel mill in Baytown, Texas in USA.
