INTRODUCTION TO BASIC CALCULUS
Course Description:
This course covers algebra, trigonometry and basic
concepts of calculus such as limits, continuity and
differentiability of functions; differentiation of
algebraic and transcendental functions involving one
variable; applications of differential calculus to
problems on optimization, rate of change, related
rates, tangents and normals and approximations;
partial differentiation and transcendental curve tracing.

c. Definition of the Limit Function and Limit
Theorem
d. One-Sided Limits

d. Increasing and decreasing functions and the first
derivative test.

e. Concavity and points of inflection and the
second derivative test.
f. Summary of Sketching Graphs of Functions.
g. Additional applications of absolute extrema.
Class Minimums:
1. Must have attended at least 80% of the allotted
contact time (36 out of 45 hours).
2. Must have submitted ALL Practice Tasks with at
least 70% correct items.
3. Must have passed all term exams.
Grading System:
Grades are computed as weighted criterion and the
general weighted average (GWA) is transmuted into
Grade-point average (GPA).

As such, have four rating periods: prelim, midterm,


semi-final and final. Each rating period is weighted
25%, and is computed as follows:
