Explain how each uses light
waves to produce image
Optical instruments
are the devices that process
light waves to enhance an
image for a more clear view.
The use of optical instruments,
such as a magnifying lens or
any complicated device like a
microscope or telescope,
usually makes things bigger
and helps us see in a more
detailed manner.
The Human Eye
When light hits the retina (a
light-sensitive layer of tissue at
the back of the eye), special
cells called photoreceptors turn
the light into electrical signals.
These electrical signals travel
from the retina through the
optic nerve to the brain. Then
the brain turns the signals into
the images you see.
The Camera
A camera lens takes all the
light rays bouncing around
and uses glass to redirect
them to a single point,
creating a sharp image.
When all of those light rays
meet back together on a
digital camera sensor or a
piece of film, they create a
sharp image.
