Windows explorer displays the contents of the entire system in the hierarchical manner. To open windows explorer, click start -> all programs -> accessories, click windows explorer. It is divided into 2 panes:- The right pane display the contents of the selected drives or folders.

WORKING WITH WINDOWS EXPLORER


The left pane contains a list of drives and folders on a computer. To view the contents of the folder, double click the folder icon. A plus sign before a folder icon indicates the presence of sub folders in that, If we click plus sign it expands and plus sign changes into minus sign and sub folders are displayed in the left pane.

THUMBNAILS VIEW
In this view, the contents of the picture files are displayed in miniature form. Folders and other types of files are displayed as icons. The image files, a folders contains are displayed on the folder icon so that user can easily identify the contents of the folder.

TILES

This view displays the files and folders as icons with name in right.

ICON

In this view, the files and folders are displayed as icons.

LIST

In this view, file names and folders are displayed. A small folder icon precedes each folder.

DETAILS
This view shows detail information about the files and folders. The information is displayed in the four columns. Column 1 contains name of file or folder. Column 2 contains the size of the file. Column 3 contains the type of file or folder. Column 4 contains the date and time of the last modification of file or folder.

CREATING FOLDERS
To create a folder by using windows explorer: 1. Windows explorer, click Local Disk (C:) in the left pane. 2. On the file menu, click new, then click folder. A folder with name new folder is created. 3. Type a name for the folder and press enter.

CREATING FILES
To create files: In windows explorer, click the folder. When one click a folder in the left pane, its contents are displayed in the right pane. Since the folder one created is empty, nothing will be displayed . On the file menu, click new, and then click Microsoft Word Document. A blank Microsoft Word Document file is created.

REMAINING FILES AND FOLDERS


To rename files and folders: In Windows Explorer, click the folder which is to be renamed. On File menu, click-> Remane. Name of the folder is highlighted. Type the other name and press enter.
