Section 1 - Introduction of Solar Energy: A To Z Design of Rooftop Solar Power Plant

The document discusses Earth's energy budget and solar energy. It states that 30% of solar radiation is reflected from the atmosphere, clouds, and ground, while 70% is absorbed by land, water, and the atmosphere. Some of the absorbed energy is reradiated back to space or transferred to clouds. The document also mentions that solar energy is an important non-polluting alternative to fossil fuels as depletion occurs. Careers in the growing solar sector include installation, design, manufacturing, and maintenance of solar power plants and systems.

Earth's energy budget
Learning Objectives of the Lecture 1

 Learner should able to understand Earth’s

Energy budget
 Learner should able to know percentage of
Solar Irradiation reflected and absorbed
Earth’s Energy budget
 To maintain a constant
global average
temperature, all of the
sun’s radiation that
enters Earth’s
atmosphere must
eventually be sent
back to space
Earth’s Energy budget
Earth’s Energy budget
 30% Solar Radiation Reflected:
 5% reflected from atmosphere
 20% reflected from cloud
 5% reflected from ground ( Land + Water + Ice )
 70% Solar Radiation Absorbed:
A. 50% absorbed by land and water (Latent heat)
 23% transferred back to into atmosphere
 7% transferred back into the atmosphere by heated rising air
 6% radiated directly into space
 15% transferred into the atmosphere by radiation
B. 20% absorbed by atmosphere and clouds
 16% reradiated back into space
 4% transferred to cloud
Future of Solar Energy
 It is also the most important of the non-conventional sources of
energy because it is non-polluting
 Considering the fact that depletion of fossil fuel there is a only
option of solar energy
 Most of the countries are turning towards usage of solar energy
into from of rooftop solar system. Solar power submersible
