Engineering Graphics 5

This document discusses different types of technical drawing projections used in engineering graphics. It introduces orthographic, perspective, isometric, and oblique projections. Orthographic projection represents 3D objects using 2D drawings from parallel views. Perspective projection approximates 3D objects to approximate visual perception. Isometric projection shows all 3D dimensions in one view at actual sizes. Oblique projection focuses on object faces or edges using 45 degree angles. Orthographic projection uses vertical, horizontal, and profile planes and can be first or third angle projections.

INTRODUCTION TO
PROJECTION
All forms of engineering a n d technical work require that a
two-dimensional surface (paper) b e used to communicate
ideas a n d the physical description of a variety of shapes.
Here projections have been divided in to two basic
categories; pictorial a n d multi view. This simple division
separates single view projections (oblique, perspective a n d
isometric) from multi view projections (orthographic).
Projection methods are used to represent a 3D object in
simple terms so that it c a n b e understood more easily.
METHOD OF
PROJECTION

1. ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTION
2. PERSPECTIVE PROJECTION
3. ISOMETRIC PROJECTION
4. OBLIQUE PROJECTION
ORTHOGRAPHIC
PROJECTION
• Orthographic projection, c o m m o n method of
representing three-dimensional objects, usually by three
two-dimensional drawings in e a c h of which the object is
viewed along parallel lines that are perpendicular to the
plane of the drawing. For example, a n orthographic
projection of a house typically consists of a top view, or
plan, a n d a front view a n d one side view (front a n d side
elevations).
PERSPECTIVE
PROJECTION
• Perspective projection is a type of drawing that
graphically approximates on a planar (two-dimensional)
surface (e.g. paper) the images of three-dimensional
objects so as to approximate actual visual perception. It is
sometimes also called perspective view or perspective
drawing or simply perspective.
ISOMETRIC
PROJECTION

• It is a type of pictorial projection in which all three

dimensions of a n object are shown in one view a n d if
required, their actual sizes c a n b e measured directly from
it.
• Purpose of isometric drawing is to understand overall
shape, size & a p p e a r a n c e of a n object prior to it’s
production.
OBLIQUE
PROJECTION
• Oblique projection is a simple type of technical drawing
of graphical projection used for producing two-
dimensional (2D) images of three-dimensional (3D)
objects.
Difference Between Isometric and Oblique Sketch

angle to render the third dimensions.
ORTHOGRAPHIC
PROJECTION
There are three types of plane:-
1. VERTICAL PLANE (V.P)
2. HORIZONTAL PLANE (H.P)
3. PROFILE PLANE (P.P)

There are two method of projecting

drawing:-
4. FIRST ANGLE PROJECTION.
5. THIRD ANGLE PROJECTION.
