 London is the capital of Great Britain, its political, economic and

commercial centre. It is one of the largest cities in world and the


largest city in Europe. Its population about 8 million.
 London is one of the oldest and most interesting
cities in the world .
 It is in the South East of England on the river Thames.
BIG BEN
It is a long grey building with towers. The large clock in one of the towers
is known as “Big Ben”. You can hear the sound of “Big Ben” every hour
in London. The clock and the bell got their names after Sir Benjamin Hall.

The White Tower
It was a fortress, a palace, a prison and the King’s Zoo. Now it is a museum. You can
see a lot of interesting things in the halls of this building. In the White tower there is
a Jewel House, which contains the famous Crown Jewels. Twelve black ravens live
in it. People believe that London will be rich while the ravens live there. The men
who guard the Tower are the Warders or the Beefeaters.
Tower Bridge
 Tower Bridge is a tall structure. It was built across the Thames in 1894. It is
most famous bridge in the world
Trafalgar Square

Trafalgar Square is the geographical


centre of London. It was named in
memory of Admiral Nelson’s victory
in the battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The
tall Nelson’s Column stands in the
middle of the square. The monument
includes four bronze lions. There are
two fountains in it
Buckingham palace is
Buckingham Palace

the kings and queens
of this country.
It is a wonderful
building .The Queen
Victoria Memorial is
situated in front of it.
It takes you ten
minutes to get from
this building to
Trafalgar Square,
which in the centre of
London.
Every day a new
guard of 30
guardsmen marches
to the palace and
takes the place of the
old guard.
There are some great parks in London. More popular of them is:
 St . James`s Park

St . James`s Park is the oldest and the smallest of the royal parks. It is near Buckingham
Palace
 Hyde Park

Hyde Park is royal park since 1536. This park is the largest one of the royal parks. Hyde
Park was created for hunting.
 Regent‘s Park

It contains Regent's University London and it is the home of the


London Zoo
