TCP: TCP protocol breaks data into small packets to be delivered over the network. IP: Internet protocol is a network protocol. Its job is to provide best possible path to destination for the delivery of data and providing back repot to the sender.
Introduction to WWW
The World Wide Web (abbreviated as WWW or W3 and commonly known as the Web), is a system of interlinked hypertext documents accessed via the Internet. With a web browser one can view web pages that may contain text, images, videos, and other multimedia and navigate between them via hyperlinks. Some of the services of WWW are:

TELNET
It stands for Telecommunications Network. It is a protocol methodology which allows user to logon to a remote computer. It is also known as Remote Login as this allows one machine to connect to other machine located on the other side of the earth.

Computers being connected remotely is called telnet server or remote computer. The Telnet program runs on your computer and connects your PC to s server on the network. After connection is made,, your keyboard and screen seem to be connected directly to the remote computer. Everything you typed will pass to other computer.

Remote Login uses secure shell(SSH). It is a proper alternative to TELNET. It provides two enhancements over internet: Provide secure communication. Supports full duplex communication.
Commands used in Telnet are: Start, Stop, Pause, continue, quit, Z(suspend Telnet), transmit (special characters).

E-MAIL
E-Mail = Electronic Mail It is a service provided by www in which a user can send/ receive messages using internet. All a user needs is valid e-mail id. E-Mail works on 3 criterias: 1. UA(User Agent) 2. MTA(Message Transfer Agent) 3. MAA(Message Access Agent)
E-Mail contd
User Agent: The user agent is a software package or program that composes, reads and replies to email messages. It also handles the mail-box i.e. composing messages, reading messages, replying messages, managing messages. Message Transfer Agent(MTA): SMTP is used for it. The actual mail transfer is done through MTA. To send mail, a system must have MTA client and to receive a mail, a system must have a MTA server application.
E-Mail contd
Message Access Agent(MAA): It needs a pull protocol. Client must pull messages from the server. This stage uses MAA. Currently 2 message access protocols are used: 1. POP3(Post office protocol version 3). 2. IMAP4(Internet mail access protocol version 4).
Search Engines
Search engine is basically a database of all internet files and pages available for display on the internet. Those are collected by a computer program called spider or crawler or robot. Components of a search engine: 1. Spider: it is a program that traverses web from link to link. 2. Index: It is a database that contains copy of each webpage gathered by spider.
3. Search engine software: It is a software that enables user to query the index. Examples of search engines: google.com yahoo.com ask.com bing.com
Video conferencing
This is a form of meeting in which participants located at remote locations can view each other and carry on decisions using webcam, internet speakers etc. In this, two parties talking to each other feel like they are talking in front of each other. Video conferencing is used in case of interviews, vivas.
Elements required by video conferencing are: VDU Audio systems Internet Video Compression Tools webcam user interface and control system (software used)
