CULTURAL AND GEOGRAPHICAL
REFLECTION OF BHADA GAUN:A VISIT TO
THE BHADA HOMESTAY
BACKGROUND:
Field visit or community visit is the process of visiting to the new places
and collecting data of geographical, cultural and economic status of that
particular area. In the field visit, we have to collect data from primary
sources which can create mutual cooperation, improve communication
and maintain kinship.
At first, we the students of NWA college visited to the bhada homestay
which is located in Dhangadhi sub metropolitan city. There are 8 members
in one group.
INTRODUCTION
Bhada gaun is the tharu community village of bhada which is
located in Kailali district,Dhangadhi. Bhada Homestay ,A Tharu
Homestay village in Urma VDC of Kailali, which was set up five and a
half years ago with the objective of promoting domestic tourism, is
becoming the choice of internal and external tourists. Home stay in
Bhada was started from 17th December, 2067 BS targeting the tourism
year 2011.
People living in this village are not much modernized they still use
traditional methods of farming. There is about 300 houses and no one
is from another caste. It is believed that Chaudhary God’s don’t let
outsiders live in bhada village. People from other castes are afraid to
come and live here.
OBJECTIVES
Some basic objectives of visiting bhada homestay are discussed
below:
• To know the sociocultural structure of bhada homestay
• To know about the geographical area of that place
• To know about the economic structure of that place.
DATA COLLECTION
• Primary data sources
In primary data sources we had collected various of data from this homestay
visit by interviewing personally at the particular house , to the particular
person in a real situation. Or, simply we used interview sampling method.
At first , we had the collections of questionnaire which we asked politely and
the answers are:
The name of that person is Chetram Chaudhary. His family is nuclear family.
There are four family members eg. Husband ,wife, and two daughters. His
main occupation is Agriculture and Farming. He has 1 bigha of cultivating land
where he has producing wheat ,rice, maize, mustard etc. Sometimes, he is also
doing fish farming. After analysing we find that he is middle class man.
• Secondary data sources
• The secondary data are extracted from internet.
FINDINGS
After interview we had analysed that bhada homestay is growing up
day by day. It has getting more than 20000 guests visiting per year.The
people of this village follows the rituals of their ancestors. As the most
of the people of this village are tharu’s so the festivals and cultures
followed by them are:
• Maghi, Dashain, Aaitawari, Dipawali, Holi, gurahi and other pujas.
The cultural dresses or custumes:
• Lahenga for youth girls
• Bhegwa for old man
• Fariya, choli, blouse, for women
• Kurta, daura suruwal, dhaka topi , and dhoti for men.
Ornaments of tharu culture :
• Phuli,kanbali, paichuri, nathuniya,gataiya, churiya, guriya, bala, and
jhobanna etc.

Food items of tharu culture:


• Dhikri , Shinki
• Roti, Pataula
• Surik sikar, Pakauri
• Musak chatani, Bayar k chatani
• Daru and jarak jhor, daal ,bhat and tarkari etc.
Musical instruments and tharu cultural dances:
• Madal
• Manjira
• Sakhiyaa nach
• Lathawa nach
• Chhokra nach
• Maghauta nach etc.
And the geographical structure is suitable for living. There fertile land for
agricultural sectors.
The cultural structure is socialised. The way of living ,behavior, ethics,
• Again ,the economic conditions of this village is poor. The basic
infrastructures are not fully developed. Communication,
transportation, proper quality education, health services, pure
drinking water, and irrigation,fertilization facilities are not
mainatined . The politicians of this village are misusing their power for
their personal benefits instead of public welfare and society. Also the
farmers are disappointed because they are not getting modern
methods of farming facilities. There is lack of high quality
seeds,fertilizers and improper rate of products in the market.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
After the data collection and findings we had learned some of the important
lessons or knowledge from this field visit.
• To improve our communication skills
• Importance of group working
• Importance of culture in human life
• The way to behave in new areas
• How to adjust in society
• To be socialised in society
• To speak politely
• Behavior of we Feeling
• How to promote our culture and traditions
CONCLUSIONS
After all, we had concluded that the bhada homestay is culturally
and geographically very rich. Every person should visit this place if
he/she wants to know more about the tharu community people. Also,
the government should provide subsidy to this homestay for the
betterment in future and welfare of thishomestay. At last, we feeling,
unity in diversity, love care and cooperation, adjust ,etc are basic
factors for any society.
