The document summarizes a study on the prevalence of mental health symptoms and disorders among elite Canadian athletes. The study evaluated over 30 elite athletes preparing for the 2020 Olympics through a survey in December 2019. The results found that 31.7% of athletes reported symptoms of depression and 5.9% reported severe symptoms, supporting the hypothesis that elite athletes are more likely to experience mental health disorders than non-athletes.

PREVALENCE OF SYMPTOMS OF COMMON

MENTAL DISORDER AMONG ELITE

CANADIAN ATHLETES
PHE 702 JEKE DIKIWAI

The objective of the reseach is to evaluate the prevalence of

OBJECTIVE mental health ,symptoms and disorders especially depression and

anxiety for elite athletes.
 Elite athletes are more likely to dance mental health disorders
HYPOTHESIS than ordinary citizens or people.
 The value as to how true the reseach goes is that that it was

VALUE done on more than 30 pupils and the data clearly states that
athletes or sportsman really do face problems in their lives.
 The reseach was based on a Canadian squad preparing for the
METHODOLOG 2020 summer Olympics to a survey on Dec 2019.Descriptive
Y statistics and binary correlation were used to evaluate data.
 By further analysis of the study I strongly support that the
researchers have a thorough analysis of their study. We as
teachers deal with this same situations with our athletes or our
PERSUASIVE players because when it comes to in season with soccer or

NES rugby or athletics they will have bigger burden and try to
balance out school and the will to win on their competition.
 It is also quite alarming to see the stats that out of 186 31.7%
are depressed and 5.9% are in the severe area.
