 People from the earliest times used different herbs

as treatment for various diseases.
 Medicinal science has begun to accept the

curative powers of herbs as well as in prevention
of diseases.
 The Philippines is a rich in medicinal herbs found

to be effective against common illnesses
(headache, cough, fever, diarrhea).

herbal medicine, and
acupuncture.
Ayurveda
 This is a Sanskrit word
meaning “the Science of life”.
 It is an ancient philosophy
based on a deeper
understanding of the eternal
truths about the human
body, mind, and spirit.
Homeopathic Medicine
 This is the system based on

the theory “like cures like”.
 According to the system,

substances that can cause
symptoms in healthy people
can also be cure to those
symptoms when given in a
very dilute amounts.
Biofield Therapy
 This directs a healing force

from an outside source into
the client’s body through
laying on of hands.
Chiropractic
 This involves manipulation of

the spine, joints, and soft
tissues to relieve
musculoskeletal symptoms
associated with nerve
dysfunction that affects
general well-being.
Massage
 This refers to the application of touch and
movement to muscles and joints without further
manipulation.
 It relaxes and eliminates

waste products from the
muscles and also improves
blood circulation and
metabolism (Potter and
Perry, 2010.
Ozone Therapy
 This is the use of ozone gas

to increase the amount of
oxygen in the body in order
to fight certain diseases like
HIV/AIDS and cancer
(American Society, 2012).

 The Traditional Alternative Medicine Act or TAMA

of 1997, otherwise known as R.A. 8423, created
the Philippine Institute of Traditional and
Alternative Health Care (PITAHC) with aim of
enhancing the development and provision of
traditional and alternative health care in the
country.
