Nursing: Defined as:

“The unique function of the nurse is to assist the

individual, sick or well, in the performance of those
activities contributing to health, its recovery, or to a
peaceful death that the client would perform unaided
if he had the necessary strength, will, or knowledge.
And to do this in such a way as to help the client gain

• There is no consensus (agreement) about any

definition of health. There is knowledge of how to
attain(reach) a certain level of health, but health itself
cannot be measured.
• Traditionally health has been defined in terms of the
presence or absence of disease. Nightingale defined
health as a state of being well and using every power
the individual possesses to the fullest extent.
