Operating system of

a mobile phone
What is the operating system of a
mobile phone?
O It's been a long time since the mobile phone was
used only to make phone calls and type messages
from time to time.

O Nowadays, mobile phones are a form of mobile

computers, through which we can check our e-
mails, send new e-mails, read news, use different
social networks, communicate with our loved ones
via video calls and so on. These types of phones
are known as "smart" phones, i.e. smartphones.
O Desktop computers and laptops use the operating
system to be able to run. However, today they also
have "smartphones", so we have a number of
features available through mobile phones that we
used to use only on home computers and / or
laptops.

O A very important feature, due to which an

increasing number of people decide to use them,
is the functionality of these phones.
How do I know what operating system
is on my phone?
O If you have already purchased a smartphone,
you can easily find the name of the operating
system and the version in the main menu,
where the phone data is located.
O If you just intend to buy it, you can find data
about the operating system on the Internet or
in the store, where all the features of the
device are listed.
What kind of operating systems are
available for "smart" phones?
O Some of the software that is installed in these
devices are so-called open source, which
actually means that there are no restrictions on
what the user wants and can download. In
addition to these, there are limited software,
which means that there is a specific
community whose applications and services
can be used with a particular operating system.
iOS
O Apple's iOS multi-touch, multitasking
operating system is what powers Apple's
devices, such as the iPhone, iPad, and iPod
Touch.
O This system is closed, that is, it is allowed to
be used only on the devices of this company.
The web browser used by iOS is Safari. It uses
iPod apps to play music tracks, and Apple
Mail uses email.
ANDROID
O This operating system is owned by Google and can
be found on a wide range of devices.

O It is an open source operating system, which means

that users have unlimited access to various
applications, programs and, in general, any free
content.
O Currently, Android is the fastest growing smartphone
operating system on the market and is expected to
become the dominant platform in a couple of years.
Windows Phone
O Microsoft released the latest version of its mobile
operating system in late 2010, which was
redesigned and revamped from the ground up, and
now has put a much greater emphasis on users.

O Windows Phone comes with Internet Explorer,

which is specially optimized for newer-generation
mobile phones.
