ABSTRACT For Project

This document describes a proposed intelligent system to prevent accidents in mountain roads and hairpin bends. The system uses IR sensors placed on both sides of curves to detect approaching vehicles. When a sensor detects a vehicle, it triggers an Arduino microcontroller that activates LED lights and buzzers to alert drivers on the opposite side of the curve. The system is designed to increase visibility and prevent accidents caused by limited visibility around tight curves. It was tested successfully and could potentially save thousands of lives by making drivers aware of oncoming traffic.

ABSTRACT

 This project is proposed an intelligence system to prevent accident in the hills and hairpin bend
roads.

 An intelligent system is proposed with Arduino microcontroller and IR sensors.

 A LED display and Buzzer is placed in the front of the hairpin bends .

 An object sensor is placed in the sides of the road in both end of the hairpin bends.

 If any vehicles cross the path, sensor gives command to the controller , the LED glows and raises
the buzzer giving signal of danger to make aware of the opposite side.
INTRODUCTION

 According to million death study (MDS) about 2.3 million people die in India per year. In that
137K is because of road accidents. That about 377 peoples per day. In that 3.7% because of
unexpected obstacles.

 There are many risky roads and bends in the world like mountain roads, narrow curve roads and
hair pin bends for ex. Kolli hill roads, Gata Loops,3-Level .

 The problem in hairpin bends is that the drivers are unable to see the vehicle coming from
opposite side of the curve.

 To avoid such problems , we have proposed this accident prevention system in mountain roads.
 This accident prevention system uses Arduino board, IR sensors, LED lights and buzzer. We are
keeping IR sensors in both side of the road before the curve and keeping a LED light after the
curve.

 When two cars pass from the opposite side of a mountain curve reaching towards each other the IR
sensor senses the car and LED glows and raises the buzzer giving signal of danger to alert the
drivers.
LITERATURE REVIEW

In 2007, Piyoosh Rautela Swarn Shekar pant.

 It mentioned approximately the speculation the street injuries withinside the mountain roads are
in large part because of the 3 simple avenue parameters that distinguish mountain roads from the

ones withinside the plains: width, gradient and sinuosity. The paper utilises GIS-primarily

totally based surroundings for correlating those parameters and delineating coincidence-

susceptible avenue stretches.

The proposed new method for differential coincidence threat in mountain roads has been utilised

for demarcating avenue stretches with differential chance of avenue injuries. The alternative

avenue cease of car can't be visible in curve roads for a driver.

EXISTING SYSTEM

 Usually convex mirrors are placed in curve roads to see the vehicle coming from opposite sides.

 The convex mirror is also used to provide safety for motorists on roads, driveways and in alleys
where there is a blind spot or where the driver has limited visibility.

 This system is not to be efficient in night time.

 The existing model are placed in curve roads like ooty-madumalai-bandipur-gundlupet.

EXISTING MODEL
EXISTING DISADVANTAGE

Usually, convex mirror are used in curved roads , but it is not valid

Some mountain roads are very narrow, and they have many curve the problem in the curve

roads is that the driver or not able to see the vehicle or obstacles coming from another end of

the curve

In many mountains road already having convex mirror but , sometimes due to convex mirror

broken and dust particles driver cannot identify the opposite side of the road

Convex mirror are not visible in night-time,

Many drivers were not aware of this mirror.

PROPOSED SYSTEM

 To overcome this existing system problem, we developed the intelligent system for accident
prevention in mountain roads.

 This proposed system using Arduino microcontroller , IR sensors , LED and buzzer.

 These sensors are placed at both the sides of the curve roads.

 IR sensors are used to detect the vehicles and indication is given by a LED and buzzer , so
accident can be avoided at a turning point.

 When two cars pass from the opposite side of a mountain curve, the IR sensor senses the car and
LED glows and raises the buzzer giving signal of danger.

HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS

 Arduino Microcontroller

 IR Sensor

 Buzzer

 LED

 Power supply
Arduino Microcontroller

 ATmega328 is an 8-bit, 28-Pin AVR Microcontroller, manufactured by Microchip, follows RISC

Architecture, and has a flash-type program memory of 32KB.

 It has an EEPROM memory of 1KB and its SRAM memory is 2KB.

 It has 8 Pins for ADC operations, which all combine to form PortA ( PA0 – PA7 ).

 It also has 3 built-in Timers, two of them are 8 Bit timers while the third one is 16-Bit Timer.

 It operates ranging from 3.3V to 5.5V but normally we use 5V as a standard.

ADVANTAGES OF PROPOSED SYSTEM

 Avoid accidents in curve roads and hairpin bends

 Easily implementable to the existing roads.

 Installation cost is very less.

 This system is independent of weather and climate.

 Maintenance is easy.

 Greater flexibility.

 Operation of the system is automated.

 Thousands of lives can be saved.

RESULT

 Implementation of this intelligent system for accident prevention in mountain roads, and hairpin
bends in roads.

 This system included IR sensor, controller, LED light and buzzer.

 The sensor placed two sides of the road, sensor sense the presence of vehicle and gives signal to the
controller.

 The controller activate the LED and buzzer to alert the drivers.

 It help to the driver to identify the opposite side vehicle presence.

 Finally, it helps to the drivers drive the vehicles in the hairpin bend road and saves many lives.
FUTURE SCOPE

 By adding camera , we can track the vehicle with number.

 From the enhancement of the controller the number of vehicles , planning in the road can be easily
count.

 By analysing the image, the if any wild animals enter in to the road we can give information to the
driver before
CONCLUSION

 The project has been successfully designed and tested.

 The aim of this project is to save many numbers of individuals lives and reduce the number of
accidents in curved roads or mountain roads.

 This can happen only by alerting the motive force by means of led light which glows only vehicle
comes from the opposite s ide of the curve.

 The vehicle is detected by the IR sensor which are connected to the microcontroller. So, if vehicle
comes from one end of the curve sensor senses and LED light glows at the opposite side.

 By this we can save thousands of lives including animals.
