IS OPERATIONS

• Responsible for ongoing support of an organization's information


systems.

• Responsible for ensuring business process requirements are met, end-


users are satisfied, and information processing is done securely.
IS Operations Management
Resource Allocation
- process of assigning and managing assets in a manner that supports an organization's
strategic goals.
- Resource allocation includes managing tangible assets such as hardware to make the
best use of softer assets such as human capital.

SOP Adherence
- Strict adherence to SOPs, including always effectively running normal checklists, is
an effective method to enhance the safety of ground and flight operations by
preventing or mitigating crew errors and by anticipating or managing operational
threats.
IS Operations Management
Control Functions
-  processes and procedures that regulate, guide, and protect an organization.

7 FUNCTIONS OF MANAGEMENT (POSDCoRB)


P – Planning
O – Organizing
S – Staffing
D – Directing
Co – Coordinating
R – Reporting
B – Budgeting
IT Service Management
Refers to a concept that comprises processes and procedures for
efficient and effective delivery and support for various IT Functions.
They are broadly divided into:
a. Support Services – service desk, incident management, problem
management, configuration management, change management and
release management
b. Delivery Services - Service Level Management, IT Financial
Management, capacity management, Service continuity
management and availability management.
Service Level Management
- process of defining, agreeing upon, documenting and managing levels
of service that are required and cost justified.

- Tools to monitor service levels include:


a. Abnormal job termination report
b. Operator problem report
c. Output distribution report
d. Console logs
e. Operator Work schedules
Monitoring use of Resources
Ensures that computer resources are used in a manner beneficial to the
organization.
It includes:
a. Incident Handling - refers to procedures in place for defining,
identifying, reporting and resolving incidents-aims at immediate
solution.
b. Problem Management- aims to resolve issues through investigation,
in-depth analysis of the problem based on the incident handling
reports- aims at resolving the underlying cause of the problem to
prevent future occurrence.
Support Desk
- primarily responsible for technical support function to assist in system change,
development and problem resolution.

Help Desk
- primarily is to service users. They should ensure that all hardware and software
problems are fully documented, escalated based on priorities, follow up on unresolved
problems and close out resolved problems.

Media Sanitization
- An effective media sanitization program establishes controls, techniques and processes necessary to
preserve confidentiality of data stored on media for reuse, transportation or for discarding.
- It is an attempt to provide a reasonable assurance that residual content cannot be salvaged or restored.
