X Ray

X-rays are a type of electromagnetic radiation discovered in 1895 by Wilhelm Röntgen. X-rays can create images of the inside of the body by showing different densities of tissues in varying shades of black and white. They are produced when electrons accelerate and transform into electromagnetic radiation within an X-ray tube. X-rays are used primarily to examine bones and joints but also to identify issues with soft tissues like organs.

X-ray

What is X-ray?

X-rays are a type of radiation called

electromagnetic waves. X-ray imaging creates
pictures of the inside of your body. The images
show the parts of your body in different shades of
black and white. This is because different tissues
absorb different amounts of radiation.
Who discovered the X-ray?

Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen was a

German mechanical engineer
and physicist, who, on 8
November 1895, produced and
detected electromagnetic
radiation in a wavelength range
known as X-rays or Röntgen
rays, an achievement that earned
him the inaugural Nobel Prize in
Physics in 1901.
Why is it called X-ray?

Through experimentation, he found that the

mysterious light would pass through most
substances but leave shadows of solid objects.
Because he did not know what the rays were, he
called them 'X,' meaning 'unknown,' rays.
How is X-ray produce?

Simply said, X-rays are produced when electrons

accelerate due to a potential difference and transform
into electromagnetic radiation. The fundamental
elements of X-ray production are an X-ray tube with
its individual components enclosed in a vacuum and a
generator.
What is an X-ray tube?

An X-ray tube is a vacuum

tube that converts
electrical input power into
X-rays. It serves the
function of creating x-ray
photons from electric
energy supplied by the x-
ray generator.
When is X-ray used?

- The majority of the time, they are utilized to

examine the bones and joints, while they are
occasionally employed to identify issues with soft
tissue, such as internal organs. Bone fractures and
breaks are among the issues that might be found
during an X-ray. tooth issues including loose teeth
and abscesses in the mouth.
Benefits and Risks of X-ray

Benefits Risks
-Painlessly help to diagnose disease -A small increase in the possibility
and monitor therapy; that a person exposed to X-rays will
develop cancer later in life.
-Support medical and surgical
treatment planning; and.
-Tissue effects such as cataracts,
-Guide medical personnel as they skin reddening, and hair loss, which
insert catheters, stents, or other occur at relatively high levels of
devices inside the body, treat tumors, radiation exposure and are rare for
or remove blood clots or other many types of imaging exams.
blockages.
X-ray wavelength, frequency and
energy

X-rays are high-frequency, and thus high-energy,

electromagnetic radiation. They have wavelengths
ranging from 0.01 to 10 nanometres, and thus
frequencies from 3×1019 to 3x1016 Hz. They are
found to reside between ultraviolet radiation and
gamma rays on the electromagnetic spectrum.
